How many Bubble Yum cars are enough? How many BL-2's ? How many Bachmann Tracksters? I THINK I have my quota with this lot of Willys Jeepster wagons and some vans. Found this lot on Ebay a few weeks ago, and watched it. Finally started bidding on it. Was there at the last minute, and had to bid it up to high 60's to get it. With shipping was over 80 bucks. But I got over 100 of them, and they can join my Rambler and AMC collection. I'll have to make a Willys Dealership, and repaint some of these, many are beat up and scarred. About 40 each seem to be whole, the rest have issues. I noticed a few have black roofs (painted), VERY few. I don't think I noticed that on the auctions I've watched before. But it must have been an option back then. Anyway, here's some pics of my just-picked up lot. The Seller did a HORRIBLE job packing, they were loose in a shabby, turned-inside-out box that I'm surprised survived the shipment from Canada to here. I wouldn't be surprised if a few small pieces had fallen out. The box was the same one as in the Ebay pic, and I remember thinking I HOPE he's repacking it...nope! He won't be getting any feedback from me.

I haven't counted the chassis's yet, but I'm sure there's enough for the bodies, or close enough. I'll count them another night. See anything you like, Microbuss?

Great haul...I'd be interested in a van with a complete mech (doesn't necessarily have to run) if you're heading in that direction.

I just finished sorting and counting the chassis's for the Trackster bodies, I have about 115 of them total, in various conditions - 47 are complete and motors move by hand, 16 complete but rusted/stuck motors, 15 whole chassis but missing some parts, 30+ incomplete / broken units, and a box bottom littered with parts and pieces. And a few scattered at work and another bag somewhere. So, looks like I can probably get 75+ vehicles back to fairly complete condition again without too much trouble, working or not. The rest will be donors and boners.
a couple things I'm interested in trying to do is take a donor, and remove a rear axle, and put it on a good unit UP FRONT. And try to have 2-axle power pick-up. With only single rear axle pick-up, it's very jerky when they move. Having a second power p/u will definitely smooth it out some. And since I have so many, I'm thinking about creating a hybrid rail-truck like the Galloping Goose - Maybe I'll call it the Drover Dragon? ( Willys-Overland was bought by Kaiser in '53, a short-lived car making company from '47-55 that had a Kaiser Dragon as their top production car model, but also had other corporate/manufacturing interests. ) Would be a good name for it, I think. I have several cracked and broken bodies that would make excellent donors for this project.
Anyway, testing will commence shortly on the complete chassis's, and reassembly into whole Willys ( originally pronounced " Willis ", but many people pronounce it Will-eeeze now ) and vans on those that pass muster. Those that have broken chassis hi-rail parts will become "roadworthy" as stock Willys trucks for a Willys Dealership diorama. I may just transplant the bodies to a normal wheeled chassis off something else, and save the powered chassis's for other uses.
So, that's my take, time to go cut up a tree in the backyard that fell down last month. AT least its' not windy outside, cold but bearable here in Virginia. can't spend ALL my time on Tyco Forum. LOL

To awnser the first question, how many Bubble Yum pieces is enough? I'm sayin' 10!! My tenth "and last" one was in the mailbox on Saturday along with the two silver-Santa Fe trailers...which are also the last two I'm buying.
NICE bunch of Tracksters, Jerry!

AMC_Gremlin_GT, Could you wait two weeks? I have caused a problem at home with way too much spent on slot cars and trains the past two weeks. If i spend $1 more on trains or slot cars I'll be sleeping alone in the garage. It's not so much the amount right now, it's the principal.
Thanks Currently in the dog house Rob
PS for some reason I cannot PM you.

Jeepman - I feel you pain. I've been there many times and after the train show this weekend looks like I'm in the same boat as you. Looks like I'm going to have to take the little misses out to dinner and spend some quality time with her for the next few days instead of working on the layout. That seems to work for me until the next time. Good luck.

New project - rebody automobiles on AHM flat cars
Well, since I have so many of these little Trackster guys now, I can experiment with them. I have 5 or 6 of these AHM flat cars with 2 Mercedes sedans on them. I wondered how close the Jeepster body wheelbase would match up - take a look!

Here's the original flatcar with Mercedes. Time for a change!

Here's a picture with the bodies removed. These came off fairly easy. Now, the intended result below -

Wow, the wheelbases are so close it's unreal. The chassis's just touch the ends of the Jeepster bodies, too, so with a little Goo on the ends, I should be able to attach these loose Jeepster shells to the Mercedes undercarriage to create a whole new flatcar load. More to MY liking, anyway! Willys ->bought by Kaiser '54 -> bought by AMC '69 -70. I will really enjoy pulling this consist around at one of my club's Open Houses or modular shows.

well here are mine with a nice van AMC supplied me with 2 Jeepsters Thank You
Another interesting fact is That these Jeepsters are 4 door & the RAREST of the rare Jeepsters As most were sold to railroads 3 known to exist Most what you see with Jeepsters 4wd or 2wd are 2 doors only

yes, I"ll bet the 4-door version was rare back then ( and now ). Here's a few pics I found of some originals.

And an actual Bachmann prototype -

Can't find a larger image of the rail version, but there it is.

Of course you'll need plastic wheels and axles, rather than metal, to insure no shorting out. But looks like a fun endeavor here.

It's not even that complicated...the Tootsietoys have a metal axle and plastic wheels. The wheels are occasionally missing or ground flat. All you have to do is take a spare HO rolling stock wheel, drill a hole if it doesn't have one, and push it on the axle.

Ahem! Excuse me guys! The axels of Tootsietoy & Midgetoy vehicles are smaller than the railroad wheels I put on so had a friend use teeny tiny C type washers to hold wheels on The wheels I used had a metal axle with plastic wheels So those wheels are easily slipped off the metal axel Same ones I used for my El Cheapo Jeeps But those I grinded off the sharp points ] Btw Shaygetz The 3rd silly pic you posted is actually TRUE Have seen real railroads haul Port-a-Potties (yuck) that way [LOL
