Hey All,
Snowed in here with drifting snow the plows can't keep up with so I thought I'd post a photo of my next project.
I headed down to the LHS yesterday with a mission of finding a GP35 Dummy or something I could convert into a Dummy. I was delighted to stumble upon this in the clearance room.
/tyco/forum/uploaded/CamdenLine/20101211162735_IMG_6093.jpg
It is an athearn dummy shell. Someone did a terrible job of trying to turn it into a Rio Grande paint scheme. They didn't do an actual coat of black paint, just tried to apply the decals to the plastic. They didn't take. In fact, I removed most of them just by rubbing with my finger.
Once I get it all cleaned up I'm going to prime it and then airbrush it in BG green. The prototype is bnsf 2874 pictured here http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1437907
There's one too many fans on the back of the model as well. I have to decide how adventurous I want to get. To remove or not.....
The actual BNSF 2874 is a GP39M which was a rebuilt GP35 so starting with this shell seems appropriate. The prototype started out as SP 7772 in September of 1965, for a while it was also SP 6669 In July of 1991 it was finally converted to a GP39M and riven the road number 2874.
I'll keep people posted on my progress.

Be adventurous, remove that small fan. The fan above the dynamic brake blister appears to be the wrong size for the loco you want to model. You could replace it with a Cannon&Co. fan. Look at www.Walthers.com , they might have it.

Hmm, looks like there are 6 fans to choose from. Here's an view that shows the roof better.

I just noticed mine has the older style Inertial Filter Hatch. Should only cost about $3 to replace it with the right one. http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/191-1353
Also, what's that under the cab window on the left side on the prototype? Is it an electrical cabinet air filter box? I see this piece http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/191-1903 on the Walthers site. Looks about right.

You specifically looking for Tyco stuff? There is some. Mostly used Athearn blue box. I'll take some photos next time. There were some tyco cars, nothing really stood out to me. I did pick up another Tyco UP gondola to rust the hell out of.

| That does look like the correct part from Walthers. Cannon specializes in EMD GP and SD series locomotives. Since the GP35 was so widely produced you should be able to find all the parts you need.

That forward fan is the dynamic brake fan. I think it might be this: Walthers Part # 585-3931 Thats from Precision Scale. 48" dynamic brake fan.

Thanks NC Shortlines. I'll look into that. The small fan has been removed. Great project to work on while the snow keeps falling outside. The snowplows have given up mostly and they are telling people to stay off all roads. With three foot drifts most people can't even get out of their garages or get into their cars if they are unlucky enough to park outside. Anyhow, here's the updated photo.

Too bad I don't have any putty on hand. That will have to wait until everyone digs out from the storm. I live on a snow emergency route so that will be cleared soon but the roads to the hobby shops will probably be bad for a while. <sigh>

The crews down at the conversion shops have been busy day and night working extra shifts over the holiday on the GP-39 conversion. Happy to report the conversion is done.
The extra fan hole is all patched up.

A new Inertial Filter Hatch is installed.

She's almost ready to head off to the paint shop for a beautiful coat of cascade green.

The horns still need to be moved but that's about it.
