I've seen many over priced train items on ebay but I beLIEve this one beats them all.... Well, other than the $810.00 Tyco box car....

Lately I've been seeing more than a few "collectible bargains" like this on Ebay, where the starting price or BIN is outrageously high for what it is. I've marked many as Watch, just to see what happens - zip for the most part. Only a few, like the AEC Hustler, do tend to go high. But I've been seeing accessories, sets, buildings, and rolling stock all appearing high. Just saw a Chattanooga priced over $100 to start, with a box.

Check his other auctions... he thinks everything he has is a fine antique. I think there are a lot of sellers out there desperate to pay some bills.

This is very typical of antique dealer thinking. Everything old is worth a fortune, especially if it has a name they can attach to it, like A&P. It those signs said Coca-Cola, he'd be asking three times as much.
This effect is fun at auctions. I watched piles of Atlas and Kato N-scale locos and rolling stock go for pennies because the boxes are rather plain, while the auctioneer really played up the fancy lettered white boxed Bachmann items.

What makes me sad is that on ebay "vintage" often refers to items from the 1990s.

I agree with Burlingtons comments.. Antique dealers think everything is a rare expensive item!
And the word "vintage" is misused on ebay....

Words like that are so abused on the 'Bay...I tend to use phrases like "...difficult to find...", "...uncommon...", "...not too easy to find..." etc. Most of my regulars know what they're looking for and know I'm not going to snow them.
