I recently got a couple of Hobbyline F units from what looks like from the 50's. It has the powertruck like an old Marx. I'm trying to remove the shell but it will not budge, I was wondering if I am missing a screw or something. I have removed the couplers and it has tabs from the frame to the shell but will not move.

Check the weight underneath, sometimes they put a screw in a hole in the center. sometimes makers also GLUE the shell to the weight, even with tabs present on the side. Just don't get impatient with it, or you risk cracking the shell.

There is no weight in it. It has a solid frame that, I think the powertruck slides in the frame itself.

There is a screw that goes through the roof at its center. it hold the plastic body to the frame. Be carefull for there are 6 parts put in place that when done properly will stay in plece. The are the two cab ladders and 2 fuel tank sides and 2 more ladder on the sides in to the rear of the loco. These two are identical with the first two I mentioned. They are easy to lose. frank

SO jeremy did you take the screw out the holds the body on and not lose the ladders or were they gone already. HObbyline drives are easy to keep going. Big problem is dirt and wear to the power pickups. If you are lucky and your powered FA has little time on it you will get some service out of it. The FA-1's came in Tuscan (red) PRR, Brunswick green (black) also PRR, Union Pacific yellow with gray roof, Western Pacific orange and silver and a B&O royal blue and black roof with a gray stripe accross the center in line with the windows on the coaches. And Last the Erie in its dark and light green arranged the same as the B&O but mostly Erie green with a gray stripe across the coach windows ' all except the B&O can be viewed on TYCO forum. frank
