I just inherited a bunch of stuff and was wondering what it is worth and where it would be best to get rid of it.

Well, to use a new phrase we've just settled on at this website by a few, after seeing your Tyco inheritance , " This ain't Lionel, ya know". You have two good choices - offer it here, or try and sell it on Ebay. Tyco is toy quality, and not great toy quality compared to the old Lionel. Value is minimal unless you have several of the rare items, and it doesn't look like you do. So that said you may get offers from $2 to 20 on items. You may get less than $50 total, or you may get more. Rolling stock brings $2-5, more if mint and with a great box. Engines bring $10-30-60, depending on rarity, paint scheme, etc. It all depends. But the main thing is, Tyco is NOT a true collectible like the old LIonel is/was. People DO collect it, but there usually aren't crazy-spend people who need every last version of something. So you won't get rich here, or on Ebay, with a Tyco inheritance. You may get some enjoyment out of it, or a little pocket cash, but you won't impress the ladies on Friday night with what you'll get selling it. All that said, thanks for posting, and hopefully you'll get some interested buyers. The Accessories may bring a bit more than single digits, though. Unbroken examples are hard to find. Hope you get something of value for them.

I agree with Jerry. You might have around $40-$50 worth of stuff. those engines sell for around $15-$20 bucks in their box, the piggyback unloader is broke, so someone would might need it for parts.

I agree that it's 50 bucks at most. And it's going to take some work to get that much. That steam engine is scrap, and the rest is pretty common and not in great shape.
I don't want to be negative, but it seems like we get a lot of this lately. I wouldn't mind if it led to new members, but they seem to be "hit and runs" that just want to make a buck and leave. I don't mind giving assessments, but it's too bad that we get more people who just want to sell than people who want to learn and be part of the group.

There has been a lot of this of late. Maybe it's due to the recession, with a lot of people hoping to make a quick buck on things they have lying around.

As they say, when opportunity knocks....That means more inventory for us to be able to buy. I wouldn't look at it negatively, myself, at least they're looking to "sell", maybe, and some of us may get some good deals on stuff others don't want anyway, like it's just laying around. I don't mind offering an opinion ( or 10 ) for free. Bring on the excavated attic/basement Tyco stuff! It's not like it's spam, per se, either. I guess if it got to be a high percentage of "value wanted" postings, it'd get old. But doesn't seem that bad to me. Bring it!

But the difference is you hang around and comment (sometimes more than we want ) instead of just posting and running. Maybe "learn something" wasn't the best way to put it.
And I agree, AMC...bring it on! I just wish they'd stick around a while.

What I price that stuff at for shows -
Most of the accessory cars $5 (the log dump car is somewhat odd, I've probably seen one but not in a long time) Loco with caboose $10 non-op plain cars $3/4 for $10 I have the USS Steel crane version of the unloader, with the car, can't get $10 for it The Burlington operating boxcar I'd put $10 on
Track gets tossed in a box for a lot price, or bundled into 10-12 pcs for a buck transformers are $3 each and rarely sell
Steam engine is a parts loco. $10 if the motor works, but only because it has the die-cast frame from the looks of it.

You are absolutely correct. I went from 5 garage bays, a hayloft and an attic full of projects, collectibles (including trains) and tools down to less than one garage bay. This economy sucks and this country is in deep Schmidt.
