What'd you think I meant? Here's some views of my Varney Casey Jones cast shell, with flashing in the window, and some along the top ridge.

Pretty good shape, I found parts for it at Yardbird, I may see what it'll cost to complete this old unit, since what you see is what I have. Yardbird sells the undercarriage, the wheelset, the back plate, and most everything else I need to complete it ( although they didn't list a motor on the website ). Might be my first ground-up build kit ever I try.

Next, here's some Varney driver wheels which are splitting and cracking apart. The main driver has a split ring from the force of the crystalization of the cast metal. I'm going to drill out a spoke on each one and cut the soft metal band, to relieve the stresses and save the rest of the flanges. Not sure they're reusable anyway, but might as well keep them from being destroyed totally.

I've downloaded the info on this Varney engine, thanks to HoSeeker's website. Great resource! Plus the Yardbird webpage with the parts and numbers to order. ONCE I get some extra $.

That's the worst I've seen, Jerry. I got a box lot of Mantua parts that had an early Pacific frame I was really excited about, but it turned out to have mild zinc rot that stretched out the frame, and caused one of the drivers to short. The expanding wheel center pushed right through the insulating ring at the joint and made contact with the rim, and the rest of the drivers have a good bit of side-to-side wobble.
