Hello everyone. I model a freelanced regional railroad in southern ky called the SOKY ( Southern Ky). I have been modeling for bout 10 years now. I mostly have Athearn and Atlas stuff that i run on the club layout. I also have several old TYCO and AHM locos that I run. Most of my tyco stuff has been rebuilt using can motors and 8 wheel drives on custom frames. I like the old stuff. Most of the guys in club joke and pick on me for buying them and rebuilding them because it takes so much time and effort, however they are cheaper to come buy. I do have 6 of the old tyco c430s that are 100% orginal that I run as a set painted for my rr. Four of them are powered and since the club layout has no grade on them I can pull a
50-60 car coal drag with them. I love the old TYCOs.

Welcome, Daniel. If the guys rib you about repowering older, cheaper locos, you should congratulate them for their skill in RTR box opening and being able to get all of those tiny wheels on the rails. At least you're showing ingenuity.

Are those 6 C430's MU-2 powered? I guess they could pull that many free-rolling cars, assuming the traction tires are fresh and they don't buck each other too much.

Yes they have the mu-2 motors in them, the 60 coal cars that i pulled with them were the little 34 foot 2 bay hoppers by athearn. They were extremly free rolling. Togather they will only pull 51 modern 4 bay hoppers. Believe me it took everything they had to pull those cars.

Welcome aboard. I like the old Tyco as well. I have 9 Chatttanooga 639's. All but 2 run but will be running soon. Most are with the orginal motors but I have 2 that have CD player motors in them and they will haul all the cars I have room for. I come from a railroad family from New Brunswick Canada. I love the old steam engines. Ask Nelson!!!
Anyway welcome to the best forum on the net.

Daniel welcome !
Another unfussy modler. Modles his own way. Not following the heard, are you. Only doing what makes you happy ! Yep ! We all try to be that way. We just do it different in other ways.
So welcome to the Tyco Forum. Have fun looking around. Also get those photos in.
