Holy ___!

I was telling my wife the other day, "Since I planned my railroad to have a presence in wisconsin, it would be fun and unique to make a model of the AMC plant in Kenosha - "If only that Fresh Cherries brand would do their Pacer and Gremlin in HO..."

BWAHAHAHA!!!!

Looks like I can give those Beetles the boot - if only I can find these! They're out now, you say?

And that Escort - Too freakin' cool!!!

According to what I've read folks are finding them NOW at Wal-Mart. They are $1.97 each. Looks like at least two factory colors each car. Guess you're gonna have more stripping and painting work to do, huh? [:D]

I was at a Wal-Mart on Saturday night looking for that Revell 1/90 DC-3 and the Motor Max 1978 Thunderbird in 1/64th scale...no luck on either...and I wasn't looking for them...but can't believe I wouldn't have noticed these new 1/87th Fresh Cherries.

Will be hunting this week for 'em. If anyone spots them at another spot other than Wal-Mart please post info.

Naturally, if you're willing to pay double or more...they are also popping up on eBay.

1978 Thunderbird!? The Baskehandle? Dangit! Now THAT would have been great in HO too.

I bought all the 1/64 Cherries when they came out - it's so refreshing to see the bricks of the 70's get some cred in diecast.

Ken - I've seen the Cararama models too... they're very nice but I think 1/72 scale?

I think ALL of these new diecast 1/87 cars - The Model Power, Malibu (Wal-mart knock-offs of MP), Street Whipz (vans) and I suspect these new Cherries - are done by High Speed. There are some telltale similarities in the deisgn and assembly of them, regardless of brand on the box. High Speed even took credit on the initial Model Power releases....

The 1978 Thunderbird was my first car...black with red interior. The Motor Max '78 T-Bird is part of its American Graffiti Series and is done in white with red vinyl top and also in light mint green with darker green vinyl top.

I also picked up the 1/64th Fresh Cherries...also got one of the larger scale Fresh Cherries Pintos. It's a great die-cast set.

Last night I lucked upon a full new and apparently untouched box of the 1/87th Fresh Cherries at Wal-Mart and nabbed one each of the all the colors and body styles...

1977 Ford Pinto Cruising Wagon (green and brown)
1978 AMC Pacer (yellow and green)
1974 AMC Gremlin (blue and red)
1981 Ford Escort (white and red)

They are really really cool! I put the AMC's on an Athearn AutoLoader last night and gave 'em a spin around the pike.

Sure hope they do more 1/87th autos in this series. The 1/64th cars included a Ford Maverick and Ford Mustang II...would like both those in HO-scale too. Maybe.

The 78 Baskethandle Bird is one of my favorites. Did I mention my first car (that I still have in need of restoration) was an '88 LX, and my wife and I each currently own a Black and a Blue/Green '97 V8 sport pkg. T-bird, respectively ;)

No luck on the fresh cherries at the walmarts I went to, looking for more vans. Bah. Maybe in a week or two once those stores recover. Unfortunately, the Frankfort walmart never did have the vans (had to go elsewhere for them) so I fear they won't get the cherries either.

The 1/64 (actually, 1/60) have been out for about 6 months. I think there are 4 or 5 colors each now. Pinto, Mustang II, Maverick, Gremlin, and Pacer.

GIC, my first car as I said was that black '78 T-Bird...replaced it with another '78 T-Bird with T-Tops and had it painted black...then went to my first brand new car a 1988 black Thunderbird Turbo Coupe.

You sly dog... the Black Turbo coupe, just like in all the "Car of the Year" ads, 16" snowflake wheels.... [Yeah!] Those last-gen Fox T-birds ('87 & '88) were some of the most gorgeous cars to come out of the 80's.

That's what I WISH my '88 was. I got stuck with that dog of a V6. Still, it was good for 33mpg highway so I couldn't complain. I loved that car, even if it did give me fits. I needs a lot of work though, but I couldn't've asked for a more faithful steed. Man, the stories I have about that car... I could go on for hours.

I once found and tried to rescue an '87 Turbo coupe... manual with a sunroof no less! It sat and sat and sat and sat in the far corner of a Lowe's parking lot for MONTHS. To effect that... "I could have probably towed it away and nobody would have noticed or cared, but with MY luck....". So I asked a cop friend of mine how to go about "legalizing" my "stake" in the car. THEN, three days later, it disappeared. It had been stolen a year ago from 400 miles away. Geez, nothing like letting a concerned honest civilian do your work for ya... and I'm sure the insurance company just trashed it. [:(!]

Oh well. If there's one hobby more expensive than Model Trains, it's cars. One money pit is more than enough!

According to a post over the Atlas Forum, there may also be a Ford Tempo and Mercury Bobcat in the 1/87th Fresh Cherries. I've only be able to find them once so far at Wal-Mart and the box seemed un-pawed thru to me and I saw no Tempo's or Bobcat's.

Also read that the 1970 Ford Maverick might be heading to the 1/87th collection later this year.

a '78, eh?

I owned a powder-blue '79. Nice trip cruiser!
V-8, 2bbl carb... I got 25-30 mpg on the highway. I had to add cruise control because the gas pedal was too easy to lean on.
...oh, this is a model train forum... my memory flew away on my t-bird. Solid car! [:D]

Anyway, nice to know others who own/owned the same feathers of autos.

...got off track...

John
btw, did you know that the AMC Pacer and Gremlin were the combined precursers to the AMC Eagle w/ 4wd?

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out.

No Joke - I seriously considered buying a Pacer this past summer. A lemon-yellow one in Florida! For a mere $500!

The ONLY thing that held me back, was the hassle of lining up insurance to drive it back from Florida... and the sad realization that since my '88 T-bird wasn't going anywhere (in both figurative and literal senses), there was no point in having another car eating up driveway space....

But I think having one of those would be an absolute blast.

In the At The Grade Crossing column in the latest issue of Model Railroad News, it is reported that Fresh Cherries next group of 1/87th HO-scale autos will include 1970s Chevy Vega; 1971 Mustang with Sports Roof; 1974 Ford Maverick; and a 1975 Honda CVCC Civic. No specific date was provided regarding the release of this next group of Fresh Cherries.

The article continues with an interview with Motormax's Maurice Chan. He states the response to the Fresh Cherries 1/87th autos has been positive. With respect to costs, it is also mentioned that price of zinc has been increasing and the article predicts that by the end of 2007 these neat little cars may be selling for $2.50 to $3.00 each...which I would still say is a good value for them.

"...and a 1975 Honda CVCC Civic."

CV = 100 + 50 CC = Cubic Centimeters dubbed CIVIC

Just my $O.O2, in case anybody didn't know.

And, they are also made of recycled iron/steel from stock-piled... you guessed it... North American steam locomotives... that's why they rusted out quite quickly. Great motors... recycled beercan bodies.

Yes, I think the next batch are due mid year and will include a Vega. Fresh Cherries has been duplicating the same cars among different model sizes, so I'm guessing the Vega is the 1976 hatchback model that has been previously produced in 1/64th.

I will admit that I am a bit bizarre in my automobilia choices. I actually really hated the Pacers in my youth but the more obscure they become the more they grow on me. I wound up getting a 68 Valiant this time around. It's just amazing how tastes change! For example, I sold my 71 Charger to make room for the 4 door Valiant. I also sold a bunch of my N scale Micro Trains to purchase some Tyco stuff. Ok......call the men in white :-)

Great episode! Didn't one of the Star Trek characters push the button to start the monorail? I keep saying that if I ever get to build the big layout that I've always wanted, I would build a miniature Springfield on it.....could park some Tyco "Nightglow" trains by the power plant. :-)

NIGHT-GLOW! Now you're talking! "Put out the lights, It's the only way to go, Night Glow!"

Night Glow, it's a beauty way to go!

Lenard Nemoy was the "Mono-Rail" activator. [:O)]

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out.
