Great stuff guys...many trips down memory lane so far. Wish I could post some old toy of mine but, alas, all were lost many years ago when my parents sold the house. I do have two that I enjoy that I always wanted at the time but could never dare ask---they simply were beyond my parents means at the time. Times were always tight and we had long gotten used to setting our sights low at Christmas---Mom always managed a miracle at the last minute somehow.
Hard to imagine parents giving their kids either one of these nowadays...
...a Wilesco D10 steam engine from around 1959 (I've since learned that the later ones I oggled from afar were not built as well as these early ones)...

...and a Mamod TE1a steam traction engine from the late 1960s.

My model train fancies were carried by these two every Christmas. The TYCO trolley ran around my tree every year 'til I destroyed it taking it to school and playing with it in the dirt...sigh. The Genoa circled our tree every year after that, pulling two coaches made by AHM by a sleepy little hamlet on one side, a Civil War battle on the other, played out by 1/4" scale infantry and cavalry. These are not the originals, but they'll do...

What about his tinplate? Its friction powered. Made in "Western Germany" at the times of the Cold War.

Shaygetz, Nice pics & story.
Erich, Nice VW Bus!
Pictured here is my original Schuco VW from the mid 1960s. I got this as a gift from Mom & Dad. I can't remember if it was a Birthday or Christmas. Winds up and was advertised to run 20 MPH. Has steering that is controlled on the rear bumper.

Here was an afforable item for kids in the late 60s. Hot Rods & Racing Cars , comic books and also the Drag N Wheels comics. 12 & 15 cents each and I bought these regularly. I have about a dozen of these now...

| I miss the days when comic books were cheap entertainment. I've been a fan basically my whole life up until recently. At the current $4 an issue, I just had to give it up. Now I collect them the same way I collect trains....that is I buy old ones nobody wants.

Now that we're all looking at old toys. I though I would let you see one of mine. 1917 Ford delivery truck. I restored it because it was in really bad shape. I repainted it along with new tires and the wood panels are real wood. It is complete and for sale. Any offers??

Yes Burlinton, The old comics were fun. I have maybe a dozen and will buy a few more. I only collect the Racing comics though...
Ken Nice job on the old truck!
One of my favorites in the 60s. The Buddy L tow truck with replacable flat tire. Come with removable wheels and a spare tire with little tools. I have not replaced the one I had as a kid. I copied this photo from an ebay auction. My truck was the dark blue version...

Nice photos and memories.

Over 50 years ago with my first dog. He and the toys are gone but memories remain. Perhaps other members still have their toys and passed them to the next generation.

THIS is an OLD toy! I am always depressed to go into an antique shop or toy store and see the newer plastic toys... Barbie cars and plastic Tonka. Guess it's all what we grew up with.
