Visited my club member today who has bins full of vintage stuff, looking for various parts for Tyco, Marx, Bachmann, and other projects. here's what I picked up for $25 total.

My first search was for a replacement unbroken cab for a Tyco Dixie Bell 4-6-0. My friend literally dumped the contents of the Tyco bin into an open sorting drawer, and we pawed thru it. I cringe every time he dumps it unceremoniously, and I told him that, he just laughs. It's just a junk box to him. After some searching, we'd almost given up, then he exclaims " well I'll be d...ed!" He holds up a black cab, unbroken, and unmarked, that was in the bin. Unbelievable that it survives his treatment, but there it was.

Next was a search for a shell for a Kader chassis for Bachmann, he didn't really have any Bachmann shells that would fit, he went to another drawer, and had some other shells. Amazingly, one slid over the 2-part frame snugly, and fit flush with the trucks like it was made for it. We tried to shake it loose, and it stuck like glue. The trucks swivel unhindered, as well. What luck! He had a Santa Fe shell in blue and yellow in decent shape in the bin, so I had 2 shells I can use on it now.

Next he had a Reading engine, by Tempo, and he had a C&O matching shell, and then he gave me a missing-parts red and silver Santa Fe engine to go with it, so I had a new engine for my roster.

Didn't find a chassis for an old Life Like undecorated translucent white shell, I want to make a Ghost train with all see-thru type cars and such, got two TMI boxcars and a Caboose, but the engine has been hard to come up with. I intend to put greenish lights in all of them, and run them for Halloween at my club's layout. I will try to DCC my Tyco 430, I found a shell that was stripped at a show this past winter, and it's mostly see-thru white. We'll see how much work it is to DCC it. Noisy critter! And too modern, I wanted something older. I found a yellowish clear Varney shell, and my junkbox buddy in a previous trip hooked me up with the power parts for my Varney engine chassis missing axles and gears and driveshafts. So will work on that one as well.

anyway, I found some other bits and pieces I wanted, like neat Tenshodo powered trucks with horizontal miniature motor, two of them. He gave me a great deal on those. Will see if they can power a Trolley or something like that.

I was looking for some Marx trucks, with the push-pin type of connection, he didn't have any loose, but he had a Marx flat car with one complete truck, so that's a start. I was also looking for a sprung caboose truck, he did find one of those, so that will fix another of my cabooses that had a partial truck on one end.

Another chassis I bought was an 0-4-0 steamer by Lima, it had a strange pivoting PowerTorque-like motor that meshed with gears on the side of one axle. My expert buddy wasn't sure he knew what engine that originally was. But the motor ran, he tested it. Another unusual piece I bought because it is unusual. Also bought a Bachmann PT type motor truck, for playing with, as I don't have any of that type to work with.

Overall a pretty good day at both the hobby store and my friend's junk bin. I spent $45 on train stuff today, so wasn't too bad. I'm happy, as I got some parts to complete some vintage pieces. Just doesn't look right running a steam engine without a cab. All for now,

Jerry

the loose cabs would make a great flatcar load or a display in a scap yard
& I'm gonna sometime rip out the guts of this Disney wind-up trolley I has So will need a tiny motor for it But a good buy for $25
