Here's a Heljan station that I got in a garage sale lot. It's unpainted...looks like they dumped all the leftover plastic together to use it up:

Not a bad idea. It's so interesting I can't bring myself to paint it.

Suydum made some real nice kits. Building Traction power etc.
Unique I guess would be the right word.

My Buddy Chris who is from Manchester he's a Traction guy which was a big part of Suydam's product line, he's the one who brought them to my attention. He has a few of their "Juice Jacks"

The funny thing about that Suydam kit....I remember in one of those old Life-Like "Basics for Beginners" pamphlets, they showed how to kitbash a couple Mt. Vernon Mfg. buildings into something similar.

They're still being produced, actually. :) The current maker is Alpine Division Scale Models.

It always makes me feel happy to see one of the traditional suppliers still going. :)

What? What? What!? They've got some awesome looking stuff. The prices aren't too bad either, especially considering some of the stuff that's available today. Thanks for the link!

Here's one I put together, their "Ed's Market". The walls are die-cut, the windows are printed, and there's one cast-plastic door, for the back.
It comes with a lot of material to detail the interior - die-cut flat cardboard shelving, strips of wood, clever instructions, and cake decorations for the veggies. Lots of cutting and painting for the merchandise, meat trays, and meat, but it was fun, and good practice for building stuff.
I added more merchandise on the shelves, because the store seemed too empty...made from more stripwood, either painted, or wrapped with striped pieces of paper and cut into sections.

The sign is my own addition, but the stock article is translucent plastic, designed to light up with the store (bulbs in the roof, hole cut in the wall).

Now that's taking it to a whole new level If I did something like that, I don't know how I'd bring myself to put the roof on Someday I'll start putting interiors in my buildings. For now I'm just sticking with sheets of plastic and black construction paper.

That Heljan station at the top of this page was featured in Model Railroader's project layout, the Kitty Hawk Central. They made some mods and painted it white to make it a Coast Guard depot.
