I just won an Amtrak GG-1 on EBay. I have never had a Tyco desil, only steamers and their older cousins Mantua Steamers. Are both truck powered? Do both trucks pick up power? I know that the motor is housed in the truck, are these the Power Torque or earlier style? How many axils per truck are powered?

Hey TK:
6 wheel Tyco truck are Power Torque's!
Btw: It's an ELECTRIC Locomotive not a diesel and it's BARELY a GG1, but who cares. One of the coolest looking HO Locomotives ever!
One truck power, one P-Up
Can be made into a nice runner.

Heh heh, he's right, it's an all-electric unit made in the '30's, and ran well into the '80's before they finally mothballed them - 50 years and they still gave great service! Amazing longevity for a mainline locomotive of ANY type.
The Tyco version is missing the normal wheelsets in the middle, and it's a shorty version, not very prototypical. I have one also in the Amtrak scheme, but haven't tried it to run it yet. EDIT Now I remember why - the trucks had the power wires broken off, and I've never fixed it. Sounds like a SUnday project to me. I think that's all it needs, really. I'll see about doing that soon
Anyway, you STILL have never owned a diesel. Just so you know.

I knew it was not a diesle, I just thought that it ran like one in the Tyco world . Thanks for the info. Most of my fleet is Mantua steamers and Atherm BB diesels.

| I have a number of the Tyco GG-1s-of all the Tyco items I have, they seem to be the most trouble free. The reversing headlight is nice, as are the pantographs. Check the traction tires on yours when you get it-at this age they are sometimes dry rotted or missing completely. (Easily fixed, though).
