Last fall I visited Hampton , VA and visited some places while there. One was a bead shop, for the wife, and I wound up purchasing some brass spacer beads that are very miniature V pulleys, as i thought they might be useful. I got an idea over this past weekend about using them on the band drive Hustlers, as I've noticed that the band will move back and forth, and rub on the motor housing, not stay centered on the shaft. I took the little brass pulleys to work today, and on the drill press, I reamed them out to .093 inches. Not having a proper way to hold them, they're a bit off-center, so they wobble slightly, but I'll live with it for experimental purposes, and I could press them partly onto the shafts by hand, need a press to do it right. I bought some O-rings a few weeks ago, so now to try to put the ideas together to see if I can make a more stable drive system. I'm impressed with the little brass spacers, they might do the job. I paid $1.50 for a pack of 10 . I bought 3 packs with varying hole sizes, none of which are big enough for motor shafts. Another thing I'm doing to it is isolating the motor from the frame ( yes, it's possible, I'm using some of my mylar sheets to do it ), and see if I can DCC one. I don't like the axle power connection, so I may try to make some contact springs directly to each wheel to the frame sides, for better power pick-up. That's subordinate to the O-ring drive upgrade at the moment, though. One step at a time. If this is successful, I'll post the results ( and some pictures ) to the Forum. Time to go shop with the wife at Wegman's, and get some dinner. I'll be cutting up some Mylar for one guy who wants some tonight as well. Anyhoo, off I go!
