I've got a Mantua caboose like the one pictured ( borrowed from Ebay auction ), and I notice there are 4 pins? holding the body to the chassis, not screws. Are they press-fit, or glued in? I don't want to break the body, but would like to take it off and put in windows. I've pried gently, but they don't move, so I want to get some opinions first, if anyone else has done this. Has a metal chassis, and what's the big hole for in thebottom? A light, maybe?

Hi Jerry. The pins have a swirl groove twisting around it. When they are pushed in they Turn clock-wise or twist as they enter the hole in the shell. To remove I try to pry and turn counter clock-wise. Once you figure it out, they are easy to get out. I replace them with regular screws. I figure it was cheaper and faster to use the twist pins when they were made. As they figured no one would want to take the shell off. Carl

Of course, getting them out past the recessed hole is the issue now, then. Two on one side are loose, but the heads still don't stick out past the hole in the metal chassis where I can get at'em to grip n' twist. This may take some work and finesse. Thanks for the heads-up, at least I know what I"m dealing with now.
