My junkbox buddy wanted a replacement dual-bulb lamp, and inside my junked-up Chevy van I had 3 or 4 lamps from a former Production/Manufacturing job, and one was a dual-bulb type ( fluorescent and incandescent ), so tonight I a brought a Varney engine over his shed to find some parts for, reassemble an old '70's Athearn B unit, and look thru his Tyco treasure boxes again and do some horse tradin' ( or lamp trading ). He was happy to get a working lamp again, so he reassembled my Athearn B unit, it ran ok, but needs some oil, found an NOS varney truck shell in one junk box (mine was split on one side), found two geared axles for it, the cover, but no worm axle. Also found the between-trucks driveshaft. So I'm "almost" complete on that unit. I picked up a nice Bachmann? C&O orange and blue steam shell, a working Atlas Bicentennial diesel engine with broken rails, and TEN Rivarossi truck pins. I have a plan for the truck pins, involves some emails to mainland China to one of their production facilities ( can you say cheap reproductions? stay tuned! ). Picked up two more Tyco trucks, one MU-2 and one dummy, as well.
We went looking thru his Ebay box ( some HO, but mostly Lionel O or O-27 gauge stuff he's selling ) for the Varney double-worm axle, no luck, but he wound up giving me 3 B&O shell and chassis combos, 2 Alco A units with no running gear, and 1 B unit, dummy with triple axles. So for a nice lamp, I got some good stuff! I may clean out his shed of parts bit by bit.
Got home at a reasonable ( 9 PM ) hour this time. Well worth the visit to his work shed, where he does his magic. I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Said I would post picture, so here it is. In the background in Clear Bags square tube storage, are three Athearn B&O A & B engine dummies. All nice shape. In front left of that is a C&O steam engine, not sure of the maker. The Bicentennial is an Atlas ? , haven't researched the engine type yet. In the very front is a Varney almost-complete chassis, with most parts to get it running on one truck, need the inner truck dual-worm gear for the other ( should be coming in some Ebay lot I just bought for 3 varney engine parts ). The other 3 pieces are Tyco trucks and motor. Not a bad deal for a lamp, I think.

HOpefully pretty soon! Once my parts come in from Ebay buy, I should have a complete running unit.
