here's a small sample of my Bicentennial collection for your viewing pleasure( couldn't find my powered 4301 bi, nor my NW either, and I've just seen them recently. Darn it! ). I have more than I thought, once I started my clean-up / sort-out / organizing this long weekend , it's amazing how much stuff I DO have that I'd totally forgotten about. I really need to get this stuff down on paper ( er, Excel spreadsheet ) someday. Anyway, to honor our vets today, here's my salute via traindom to all you hard-working, dedicated soldiers, sailors, airmen, and special forces ( and our Coast Guard, too, don't forget them! ) And our spies as well. <wink>

I am displaying both guts and butts ( power end and tail end of the train ) in Bi livery, since I have both, hope this doesn't turn off you LOCW guys too much. LOL.
One Identification question - the shell in front, with the triple stripes? I can't find it anywhere in Forum search, nor Web search, and I KNOW I've seen it before, Tried Ebay and elsewhere, cant' find which manufacturer made this one. Help, please? Thanks!

Ah, so it is! Thanks! It's the later model, I take it, so doesn't show up as often. Now to find a drivetrain for the shell.

MB:
Do you mean the Tyco ones specifically? I don't think any were. There were of course a myriad of So76 prototype loco's however.

The Tyco C430 was based on the Seaboard System's Paint scheme on a GE U-boat much like Mike's. The N&W one is also for real...there were many railroads that did it>>> http://myweb.msoe.edu/~westr/bicentennial.htm

Hey MB - Tyco Alco 430 76 was based on SCL's 76 scheme a - as for the 630 - not sure of it's basis - bummer - maybe someone else on here knows the basis for the 630

There are no direct matches though, right guys?
There were only a handful of 430's and HH 630's built. I'm not aware of any direct matches but if you've got photo's....

I remember in the 70s my cousin had a 76 set with the Tyco 430 engine. It run smooth but never seemed to have full speed in it. It wasn't slow, but it wasn't fast... It was just kinda, "half fast"

No, the NW engine is a direct duplicate. I've seen a real 1:1 scale version at the Roanoke, VA Transportation museum. Here's a pic of it I took last year:

Nice, huh?

Mike, that looks like my old Athearn U28B, except for the EMD trucks. Is it one they made for Lionel or Cox?
Oh, and Happy belated Memorial Day everyone.

Thanks, but apparently I don't. Athearn did make locos for a few other brands in the early 70's, but that could just be an Athearn U-Boat with EMD trucks.
