I am building a layout in ho scale with mountain an elevated track an canot find any information on the maximun degree of rise for the track, or any comment on how to elevate the track properly, anyone out there have this information? Thank You Jerome

The NMRA has standards for track rise, track height clearances, and such things. The info is available online. Most railroad track grades are in "percent grade". For the prototype railroads:2% is fairly steep. The steepest mainline grade in the U.S. is near Saluda, NC. Runs 4.5 to 5 percent if I remember correctly. With model trains you can make the grade as steep as your locos can pull. To calculate how much percent grade will rise in inches for a given number of feet of track, simple math will tell you that.

I believe Woodland Scenics makes styrofoam risers. It wouldn't be the cheapest way to go, but it may be a good starting point. Good luck!
