I won this off Ebay this week and it arrived 4-21-10. This came in a lot of 3 mint Tyco U.P pipe gondolas i bid and won for $5.99 plus shipping. The box it came in suprised me as i have never seen a Early brown box Tyco. This would have to be for the 1970 - 1971 year possibly 1972 also. I am going to say 1972 is when they changed to second and final version of brown box which lasted until 1993.
The front of box is same as later brown box packaging

The end side with car info is very different from later brown box packaging. Notice the brown color and the white center with typed info.

Opposite end of box is solid brown

this is the back of the box - This first version is very bright - white background in picture of accessories where as later brown box with color pictures have a " light brown box look" background

For comparison - Top is 1st issue brown box - 2nd is 2nd issue box

Back of boxes with color pictures - NOTE - Color pictures of accessories are ONLY found on early brown boxes 1970 - early 1974. Ist issue is on top and later issue on bottom. Notice also the Semaphore signal is not on 1 st issue where as it is on the second darker picture version. Also notice the numbers 91 - 0 - 1 0 8 - on the first issue brown box - they are on the bottom - second issue box they are on top. Notice also on the first issue box - there is NO Consolidated Foods Comapny as is on second box. The font size also changed along with added info on second box

This end the Tyco ends for comparison -
