Hey guys I was wondering if it would be ok to use cat litter for ballast as a cheap alternative to buying the good stuff?? Any thoughts?? Thanks Steven

| I used it as a teenager and it worked for a season...it doesn't like high humidity and standard ballast bonding methods don't work. A much better inexpensive alternative for those with tight budgets is sifted mortar sand or, like I use, salvaged sand from the sanders of diesel locos in 1:1 scale (we have permission to get it, don't go without it).

Seems like a pretty good idea as long as you have no cats in the house!

I use the small gravel fron our roofing that comes down the drain spouts and collects in the cement drains to keep the water away from the house. Its FREE!!!

| That's a good idea about the roof shingle granules. I wonder if they will work in my cat box?

I thought this video on how to ballast tracks was good. Man YouTube is great for learning new skills. Seeing someone doing it is far different than reading about it.

| I've watched Big Al's vodeos before and the guy is good. Hadn't seen this one before and it's very informative. The police car is funny but maybe more truth than humor. Pete
