Does anyone know of any manufacturer making an operating HO windmill? Not the kind like you see in Holland, I've seen them, I mean the windmills that you would see on an American farm?

I figured there weren't any. Too small for the motor, I guess. Just thought I'd ask to make sure.
Thanks!

| it would be possible if motor was beneath base, and the pole that gos from base to top had some form of gearing on its ends, and a gear to match at top, rather than a motor at top,ken

| In the olden daze, we oldtimers would use aquarium air pumps mounted under the layout, piping the air to a hole in the scenery, aimed toward the vanes. If you made your vanes turn easy enough, the puffs of air will turn them.

Hi Guys, I am in the process of bashing a working windmill as you would see on a from in N.B. years ago. I am using the motor from a mini helicopter its about the size of a pencil. The gearing I'm working but should be done soon. I read the post about did anyone know a manufacture who is building one. That was all I needed so here I go. I have the power all set out now I need to put together the unit. Should be a blast when I get ti done.I'll post pic's then. Ken

A really small NWSL gear box (I can't recall the name but on the same lines as the Bachmann Spectrum Shay re-gear kit has the needed gearing for this, ALSO PSC makes a gear set that would work as it would allow the long shaft that goes up through the tower to be coupled to a motor below the layout "table". This beveled pinion gear set up would work VERY well!

Strangely enough, in some very old electronics, say 1950's era, they used a pinion-geared arrangement on the adjustment knobs, I bought a couple at a Hamfest some years ago. I'll see if I can dig them out and photo them, I thought they might make nice pieces for a project with slot cars, but they could probably be used for a windmill, too. Now, where did I put those thingies....

I've given thought about an airpump I found. Harbor Frieght Tools sells a cheap air-horn with an air pump that pumps air when you touch the horn button. Uses 12 VDC.

Ok, here's the right-angle tuning mechanisms I found at a Hamfest. Pretty cool, they were just a dollar each or so, so I figures what the hell. Haven't found a use for them yet, but maybe one day.

Not a Bar-B-Q, but an old 2-way radio flea market . Never know what will show up, one year I got a stack of C&O train literature from one vendor, some of it radio related, mostly operations and training manuals. Even seen a couple train lights/horns there. Diecast cars show up, too. If you like elderly electronics, a Hamfest is the place to go.

Cool, Jerry. I've never seen bevel gears in a tuning mechanism. They must have come from some old boat anchor. I have an old Hammarlund HQ-129-X that came from a ham friend about 5 years ago.

Jerry, THATS exactly what you need! Those pinion gearboxes would work GREAT!
