Hey All:

Finally got an original proto truck 630 from a buy on ebay. It's a Santa Fe, which would make it a Model #243B.

I have two later but early 630's. A D&H without the nose ladder rungs but steel rails. I'm keeping that shell gonna sell the chassis. Also I have an early ICG with nose rungs & metal railings (Actually only the port side one is there) but its not the 1st edition one. Thought it was. It was in a 243A box but oh well.
I've gotta test them both, but is anyone interested?

Cheers,
Gareth
PS: I have a pristine Tuscan GG1 if anyone is interested. I was going to drop the shell on an Athearn TM chassis and pull the pantographs and make it look like a Diesel "GG"

Awesome! Where'd you dredge that one up? I'd been looking for ages and finally settled for a poorly repainted refugee in a lot a week ago; that was the first I've seen. And I've been searching for the term "1102" trying to account for all those who don;t know any better...!

Can you tell me if your Santa Fe unit has yellow numberboards, or a vertical stripe on the nose? If you could post pics that would be awesome.

I'm praparing to write the final chapter on 630's, once I clean up my refugee. There are 4 (maybe 5...?) shell revisions (!) with three different drives....

Haven't got it here yet but the guy was able to describe it in detail. Most importanly two driven black trucks and that means! an early Rivarossi type drive. I actually had him remove the shell to confirm as I got burned on the ICG one I have because it was in a 243A box with a metal rail. He actually thought it had twelve driven wheels till I gave him a bit of history.

Nice that it has "KD's" mounted.

Odd thing is no one bid against me, maybe because I paid $25 for it but then I'll sell the ICG and maybe my Tuscan GG1 and I'll cover the cost.
The auction link was:

I'll get some photos in a soon as it arrives.

Cheers,
Gareth

Dang! That WAS a find! Kudos to you for having the eye and patience to read [:D]

The irony is, I wish my refugee was a Santa Fe. Underneath the 3 layers of repaint (!) I found an Illinois Central. No complaints though, but I doubt I'll get it clean enough for permanent display.

I wrote a lengthy post about the original 630's when I was given an example with what I eventually determined was a mismatched shell. Based on my new evidence, I hope to lay ALL those questions to rest.

I wonder how the KD conversion on yours was done. The early examples had removabe coupler pockets that snapped into the trucks. Could install them there, or do a body-mount...

Congrats again on your find!

I almost posted that auction in our eBay Related section when I first saw it. Sure sounded like the guy knew and actually had an early example Super630, but without a picture I was skeptical and didn't post it here.

Great Find! Please provide us all with pics when you receive it. Would like to know, as Tony L. asked, if it does have the horizontal yellow band across the numberboard area on the nose. TYCO shows what appears to be an early model Super630 poking out of a Decorated Tunnel accessory in the 1973-74 catalog and it's paint does NOT match what is later given that model.

Good News gentlemen!

The Phase 1 Santa Fe Super 630 arrived today. It's in great shape and has that odd Vertical Yellow stripe I haven't seen in photo's and yellow Short hood number boards.

Other than that, the only odd thing is that the owner mounted Kadee's.

I'll try to get photo's up to add to the Super 630 Canon later.

Cheers,
Gareth
