Greetings all! Found this site by surfing for some information relating to some recently aquired TYCO stuff and decided to jump in.
I'm in the Navy and retire with 20 years this summer. I'm originally from central Massachusetts but now live in southern Maryland.
My first train set was an O27 Marx followed shortly by the TYCO Durango. I had a 4x8 table and added a couple Athearn cars and engines and was hooked.
Now that I am moving on to a new career and now own a house, I'm getting back into the hobby. And, with the recent TYCO aquisitions that I've made, I think I'm going to start with another 4x8 to display them...before I jump in with both feet and start building the BIG layout.
Thanks for reading.

Welcome aboard Shawn. Starting small is a good idea It will help get the ideas flowing for your big layout. You can also make all your mistakes on the small layout so there won't be any on your next one. There are lots of people here that can help answer any questions you have.

Welcome Shawn. Join in and post some pictures of your aquisitions like Brian encouraged. Did you buy your stuff at the hobby shop in Cumberland?

Shawn, welcome to this site, and back to the scale train hobby. Lots to talk about here, and lots of good info. I just set up a small 4' x 4' oval over an open stairwell in my small Cape Cod house, the ONLY place big enough for any trackage. Just using it to test and run my collection, no room for a layout right now. I can use my local club's layout at Base Quantico if I need to run anything substantial ( we're open first Saturday every weekend for a public open house at the VRE train station in the town of Quantico, VA on the base ).
Anyway, if you're looking for more rolling stock, etc. there are various train shows going on, the biggest are at the Fairgrounds in Timonium, MD, there's one coming up in February. Here's the date :
The Great Scale Model Train Show , February 6-7 2010
Maryland State Fairgrounds, 2200 York Rd, Timonium MD
Due to circumstances of late, I've missed every one in 2009, there's usually 3-4 different train shows and flea markets there during the year. I HOPE to make this next one. Good place to pick up some old Tyco's and other brands cheap. Just a heads-up if you're interested.
If you get a chance, come down and check out our open house, the January one is already over, the next is <DARN! > Feb 6th, well, I can still go on the 7th to the show. :) Long as my Jeep is still roadworthy. So, glad to have you aboard, and have fun with your new life, house, and railroad empire. Look forward to updates on your progress.
