Hi Guys,
I am hoping for some helpful information. Did Tyco use a white fiber pad as a spacer or as a lube pad under the grey pinion gear on a Power Torque?
I recently bought a Tyco Shark Nose and started doing a little maintenance on it. As I was cleaning the gears, I noticed what looked to be a white fiberous mass around and under the pinion gear. At first I thought it was some old hair or carpet fiber. As I started to remove it, I noticed it looked more like a small pad. I don't know whether to remove it or keep it from under the gear.
I have some Tyco GP-20s and C630s and they don't have this around the pinion gear.
Thanks, Joe

Yes Tyco did put that pad under some 80's models power torques - i don't know the real reason why but guess it would be to help keep material from catching around armature

That's felt bearing packing to retain oil, because the bearings are small and had a habit of running dry very quickly. There should be felt inside the oil hole on the brush side, too. I made the mistake of removing it from under the pinion on one unit because I mistook it for lint the first time I saw it, too.

Thanks for the help guys! Luckily, I didn't remove too much from under the pinion gear though I did remove the small piece from the brush side bearing. I will take a small piece of the pinion felt and repack around the brush side bearing and then apply ONLY a drop or two of oil.
Thanks, Joe

as i have finally learned, one or two drops of oil is way to much oil. let the oil form a small drop on the end of a tooth pick then touch it to the bearing. one on each side is pleanty.
