I am new to the train world. My father in law gave me a Tyco train that is older than me. I need to make a repair and i don't know how or where to send it. It is a minor repair. One of the gear wheel pegs is broken. Any advice would help.
My engine is a Santa Fe F-9 (#224-21) if this will help.

Thanks,
Johnathan

Most hobby shops that actually know something about trains (not the ones that have one small shelf with trains and the rest of the store filled with RC cars) will do engine repairs. If you can find a shop that does engine repairs, preferably one that has been in buisiness for a long time, they should have some ideas on what to do.

hi Jonathan, good advice from cheez, old established shops and ones that are dedicated to locomotives is the best way forward on this one,if you are not experianced with repairs it can cost you a lot more as i found out to my cost, ken

The guy was/is an authorized Tyco/Mantua Service Center repairman. To my knowledge, he is the ONLY person in the U.S. advertizing as such.
Also, he isn't one of those loud-mouthed rivet-counters that will tell you to either "grow up" or "throw your junk away and buy an Athearn."

With as many Tyco engines that are on on eBay...and with the reliability of said used or "NOS" engines being 80/20 20 being "working"...there is a niche market for Powertorque/Mantua reapir/retrofit/replacement.

Certainly someone can outsource/machine from metal those few parts that were nylon and plastic that continuously broke/wore down, etc...and offer a replacement package.

Damn...lots of good ideas on here, as of late. [:D]
