i did a search, i even checked my old post, & the thread tyco brian did won't open for me for some reason. i bought some traction tires for the chattanooga 0-8-0 type steamers (stewart 515) to use on all my tyco power torque equipped diesels that needed them. they worked ok for a little while, but now all of them are losing traction. i ckecked my track & it is spotless, so the only thing left was the traction tires. i looked at them today & the top of the tire comes up even with the groove they sit in. a factory tire sticks up past that by about .025".

what do you guys use? has anyone tryed life like or any other brands?

please help, "again".

Smokie - Tyco diesels use #505 traction tires - #515 is for Tyco steam loco's. Even though both have power torque motors - the wheels groove is different. Calumet is the new name for traction tires - numbers are still the same though. I would say you can still purchase Stewart tires under Stewart name as it is older stock now since name change. Being older stock now shouldn't affect tire as long as it fits snug when installed. Hope this helps. -Brian - BriansTyco.

I broke down and ordered these today, just to see. I have my doubts, though. I wish I'd thought of looking for O-rings. That sounds like a great idea. I'll let everyone know about the ebay tires when I get them.

I think the Sharknoses that I have are just later models, and cheaply made. I've got one running PT and one repowered, but I'm not thrilled about either. Someday I'll replace the trucks with something stronger. The gears are really flimsy.

The tires arrived today. I think they're just dental elastics. I'm not impressed at all. In fact, I kinda feel ripped off. They work, but I'm afraid to leave them on given the reports I've read that dental elastics decay and turn into a mess.

I want to upgrade my last post about the traction tires. AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS. I was hoping to use a few temporarily to "test drive" some locos, but they're complete junk. They're not even a uniform thickness...one side will be thick and another thin. They're really hard to put on, and like I said before, I think they're just dental elastics. But since I never had braces, I don't really know.

I bought traction tires for the early TYCO diesels from www.yardbirdtrains.com
By early,I mean the tires are 0-ring style. my understanding is that later traction tires have a square cross-section. They are expensive,
$1.25 per pair.

Yes the orthodontal elastics will not be uniform in diameter and even worse will be affectd by any oil of grease,,

on another part of this forum Tyco Motive power the same subject is discussed.

Jerry uses a # 47 O ring. Being that they are nitrile rubber oil and grease will not affect
