Although I constantly see Lima trains on second hand tables, I'm not sure I've ever seen any in there box and in a display case with the rest of the athern, bachmann etc. engines. I've heard people say that Lima isn't the best make of model trains. I don't have a Lima engine that runs so I can't tell you how it runs compared to american brands, but I guess over here its cheaper to buy american trains than european trains.

hi cheez agree with you regards motors, the pancake motors were not there strong point although a company still makes replacements, their best model in my eyes was the deltic, but they could not have been all that bad as hornby have along with rivarossi and jouef bought them and released a number of their locomotives and passenger cars, time will tell ken

I have a Lima engine (same as the first pic u posted only in CP paint, not santa fe) but I can't get it to run. Some guy gave me it for free at a train show a few years ago and told me all i had to do was glue on the bottom of the truck to hold the wheels in place. Well I've tried several times, and it hasn't done a thing. The only time it actually ran, was when I got so frustrated I decided to tape the bottom of the truck on temporarily, to see if the thing actually ran. It did, but the second I glued the piece on...[XX(]...nothin. The model itself doesn't look all that bad. Could you post some pics of the motor so I could see what I'm doin wrong?

I don't actually know that much about Lima...are they still making trains? Anyway, they have made it over to Canada. Here is my Lima engine (i do have the chasis for it) and two Lima passenger cars. One is in Amtrak paint, and the other has been repainted, probably originally in Amtrak paint as well, judging by the faint blue and red smudges on the side.

Hmm... looking at the locos, one thing I can tell that would have spoiled their favor in the states is the swinging, truck-mounted pilots and steps - a big no-no as Con-Cor found out with their PA-1.
I have seen some of the Lima rolling stock however, and it is really quite nice for it's time!
Ken, thanks for the pics of the container crane! I've been wondering what it looks like. "Crazy money", eh? Looks like they went the Tyco "roof pick" route. For that matter, you could probably kitbash something very similar with two Tyco overhead loaders and a few basic detail parts! Still a nice unit though.
