Whoa... that's pretty sweet! Kinda reminds me of a clown though. The random red louvers are killer too. Did NH have anything even close to this in real life? I've seen so many takes on the McGinnis scheme, one has to wonder (in leu of, I dunno, searching the internet)
If it is a wild fantasy that wouldn't surprise me. I once found an Athearn F-unit of similar vintage, factory painted for "Burlington Route" (at least that's what it said on the side), that was similarly random and terrible. I wanted to buy it for the sheer WTF factor but the asking price seemed a bit high, maybe it was rare. All I know is apparently the paint fumes back then were pretty epic.

I haven't found this NH scheme on Railpictures but I understand that it was a NH scheme. I understand it is desireable by Athearn Yellow box collectors and that it was sold by Lionel also with the only difference being the little "L" marking. The Athearn F unit was most likely used in an early 60's Tyco single page advertisement, when the Tyco NH scheme wasn't ready.

| Nice find on those Fs...I wouldn't think old Irv would've allowed too much freelance artistic license for his own stuff...

Ha ha, speak of the devil, that oddball Burlington loco I mentioned just turned up on ebay. I want to say the one I saw looked worse than this - I specifically remember more white in a big chunky mess - but this one's bad enough! I'm fairly sure the real road didn't paint them this way.

That looks as if the paint job was not finished. The Fs I've shown actually came with plastic chassis like the Gold Crown models. They were produced about 1961.
