Can anyone recognise the hopper below? No manuf. ID on it. I thought the weight shape & position might be a clue. This is prep to finding a load for it.

Internal dimensions of hopper: Length: 103.36mm Width: 29.24mm
Also, can anyone point me to a commercial coal load that is a good fit for the Accurail 2500 series USRA 55-ton hopper??
Internal dimensions of Accurail hopper: Length: 104.45mm Width: 30.89mm
Thanks

You will have to excuse my ignorance regarding coal varieties, but would taking a hammer to a piece of anthracite coal in a bag do the trick?? Tanked

| I'd say it's a Life-Like model. The trucks and weight arrangement definitely fit. Tony's site doesn't have a pic of the L&N Dixie Line, but it's listed. In contrast, my GB&W isn't listed at all. I have a B&O with a fake coal load - and is it ever fake! Looks like a blob of plastic from a mile away. -Todd

I dunno about the accurail, BUT I might be able help with the smaller one.

Also if you search on Walthers website & type in coal loads you'll get some hits on accurail & others. However they aren't cheap!

I finally pulled out the camera and recharged it. Here are my two examples (the GB&W box shows its pedigree):

The B&O with similar trucks (stamped Hong Kong on the talgo tab):

The GB&W showing the same weight arrangement:

And the B&O with its similarly unpainted-weight, under an ultra-fake coal load:

The lighting could have been better. Thought the sun was brighter.
These 2-bay Life-Like hoppers cover the spectrum, from horrible to really nice. The B&O is a disgrace up close, with no paint, just unfinished plastic and fuzzy silk-screen. The GB&W is cleanly molded, with a realistic flat yellow finish and crisp lettering. You can see some of its original price tag from Iron Horse Hobbies, in Pittsburgh. I picked it up on clearance one day after work.
Your Dixie Line looks like one of the nicer examples. The weight is hard to disguise, especially unpainted. With a realistic load, it'll be ready to roll. Cheers, -Todd

Tanked -- your car was made by Life -Like - 70's to early 80's- I have one just like it - as far as coal loads pre-made -- Accurail may have or get some jell moulding material and cast your own or you can use resin also--just get you a pile of coal and pour over-trim mould to fit -paint flat black
