Finally got a M&StL boxcar the other day, and while looking it over I noticed something kinda funny "ha ha":



So... "Animated Brakeman Patent Pending". I like this extra data, as it's a clever and Lionel-ish touch... only trouble is this isn't the brakeman version!

You can't really fake these since the car-length hole in the roof for the brakeman is a pretty obvious and permanent modification. In other words, if the roof is intact, this was a mistake by Tyco. Especially since some quick research has uncovered that the plain boxcars DO exist WITHOUT this extra bit of data.


So... does anyone have the full story as to how many were made like this? And in a similar "oops" vein, do any of the Brakeman cars exist without this data?
