I have a remotored RS-3 to break-in & am curious as to what others do - for how long they run the Loco continuously as a 'standard' break- in period for the motor/gears & if they put anything 'special'
on the gears to help them settle down & run smoothly.

I have tried using the old pearl drops and valve grinding compound tricks to smooth out rough gears.
It might work if the gears aren't to tight.
If they are to tight, by the time the gears are worn in they will be worn out.
If you use the valve grinding compound on plastic gears don't run them long with the compound in the gears. Only long enough until they turn freely, ( I have ripped gears to shreads by running them to long) then disassemble them and clean them thoroughly before reassembling and lubing them.
