Just finished putting the last of the 1960's TYCO annual product catalogs on my website...

http://tycotrain.tripod.com/redboxeracatalogs/index.html

You may now view 1960 through 1970-71...the Red Box Era of TYCO.

Tony,

I have the utmost respect and admiration of the work you have done collecting information and posting it on your web site for the benefit of HO train collectors world wide. Thank you!

However, I must question your use of "1960 through 1970-71... as the Red Box Era of TYCO".

Mantua Metal Products began packaging their Tyco RTR brand in red boxes in 1959! So, why doesn't your logic follow that the Red Box era started in 1959?

I also challenge the term Red Box Era as being confusing and completely outside of the time lines used by most! If you want to purchase Tyco that was manufactured in or before the early 1960s on evil bay you have to use the search term Mantua to find the nice items. Even if the item is in its original packaging with Tyco emblazoned all over it sellers tend to list it under Mantua.

I base my comments on my current observations and on those made in the past. In 1959 I had completed school, served four years flying planes in the Navy, was married, had my first son and was living in my first home working on my third HO layout Where were you?

Personally, I think of the period of 1953 to the late sixties as Johns Era. The time when John Tyler, the Founder, was CEO. The period after was the Norman (son of John) and the Cookie Monster era. I and my family thought so highly of Tyco made in this period we gave it all away!

Tony, please advise why the Mantua-Tyco products of the 1950s get ignored.

Loopy
