It seems in my area that trains hitting vehicles and people are on the rise. It is not the railroads fault. People are in a hurry to go NOWWHERE!

I have been to numerous train fatalities in my 30 years of firefighting. Nothing will prepare you for what you are going to see, which is totally preventable in most cases.
I feel sorry for the train crews and the emergency serice workers that have to deal with it during and after the occurrence.
At one of the occurrences I attended, I walked a quarter mile to the engines to find the engineer sitting off to the side. Sheet metal from a car were still on the pilot, and coupler. When I asked the engineer if he was ok, he replied, "how many were killed this time!"
What a sad situation for someone (engineer) who can do nothing but apply the brakes and wait for the impact...
