Nope, not a repaint or custom job...that Chessie System Turbo Train is the real deal.

The Turbo Trains that ran on the slot car like track and not the HO-scale track like TYCO's original Turbo Trains, included this Chessie example among their ranks.

The train set with the twin Turbos, seen above, is from the late '80s. The set included a Santa Fe and Pennsylvania Railroad 3-car each set. But TYCO also made the cool looking Chessie System model.

I stumbled upon the Chessie thanks to IHC. Digging through a sale list, I found Turbo Tail Section for like fifty-cents one time and I asked them to pull examples of each they had in stock. I got a red-and-silver Santa Fe end piece and the Chessie System end piece complete with the B&O capitol dome logo.

Again, I can't confirm if they were sold separately or perhaps came in another Turbo Train set or were substitutes or variations for the Twin Turbos train set.

It is neat looking though...

Ok. I've never seen one of these before. I wondering if it was like that solid yellow one that popped up on ebay about a month or two ago.

Ah yes, why take the dowdy Amtrak Acela when you could have a Chessie Turbo Train whisk you to D.C. instead? [:D]

If only life imitated art more often!

(Actually I have ridden the Acela, and it is VERY cool!)

I didn't think the Chessie System Turbo was all that rare. Could be an eBay fluke. I would've said it would sell for $20-$30, but I would have been waaaaay wrong on this particular example.

Another Chessie Turbo Train on Ebay - Item 110072431967. Not affiliated with it any way, just astounded at the last one's final price. Curious to see if this brings the same kind of bid war.

Saw that one too. It's "played with" but looks complete and includes the set box. I imagine it'll bring in some serious bucks.
