I guess all collectors have a piece they have been looking for since the collection began... In my case one of the most elusive was an early Mantua kit reefer car from the late 1930's... Well, this week I got one! Now that I have this car in front of me and I think of all the time I spent searching for the darn thing, it both looks snd feels like a silly waste...

Hi Loopy,
Thats a couple cool cars you have. I really like the Mantua car. I don't think it was silly or a waste if you enjoyed the hunt. Besides, you got to share something with your Tyco freinds that maybe few if any of us has. So nice going and congrats!

Wow Loopy... those are killer. I think I actually saw the College Inn auction like a week ago, and *almost* threw a bid in on it! Unfortunately I don't know my old Mantua as well as I should and if IIRC the seller didn't have any truly convincing proof. But the "College Inn" name was a familiar one. It still survives in Chicago (now called "Old" College Inn) as a small chain of Pizza eateries, and they also sell frozen pizzas through wholesale channels. Personally I never heard of their tomato juice, which is just as well since I hate the stuff.
Keeping with the vintage reefer theme, here's the favorite of my collection that also provided a recent chuckle:

1959 Tyco #313-D Pluto Water reefer; lithographed metal on plastic carbody. I dug it out just a week ago to snap a picture for my site's gallery and display. I always assumed it was just spring water. But a little research revealed it was more than that: it was a laxative - and a pretty dang effective one at that! So much so that back in the day it spawned the huge French Lick Springs Hotel and Golf Resort - which was recently restored and is evermore just as swanky as it was 90 years ago!

I just got my car this past weekend, while on a short vacation trip.

A bazillion points to the first person able to guess on which tourist railroad the real version of this caboose operates. (Hint...it gets pulled by a foreign steam locomotive.)

We have a winner!
I'd have to say after visiting, the Boone & Scenic Valley is one of the best places to see a wide variety of equipment operating, from industrial switchers to Canadian F's to an amazingly preserved and restored interurban car.
And of course, my favorite, the JS8419.
It's of a lot higher detail level than most steam locos made in China in the late 80s

Anyone notice the front truck on the Bachmann Loco tender publicity shot is derailed. The Spirit of Tyco lives on.

LOL....thats funny AlcoFan! Good eye! Better than Bachmann's! Its a good looking steamer non the less. That locomotive reminds me of the RJ Corman steam locomotive GIC had posted a video of awhile back.
I will be getting a new camera next week so I may be able to contibute more in the future. My old camera got confiscated by my wife when she abandoned me last year......

I can relate...first---and last---time I'll ever spend ten bucks on a vintage car...kinda ruint my rosy memories of this car in the early 70s, a Walthers Tongue in Cheek Impact Detection Car...
