Hey...it's still Tyco
Does anyone know of a similar information source for Tyco racing as Tony has provided?

Yeh, it's still TYCO and not only that you could get a railroad crossing for the race track.

Just looking over eBay quickly, the cars seem to go for about $5 each. I have no knowledge on slot cars of any brand though.
I did find this diagram on the site you mentioned shaygetz:
Looks like a Mantua MU2, no?

I was going through my father's belongings a week ago, and came across this from when I was a child. We used to race Tyco slot cars, and this one survived all that time. I'll need to clean this up to display.

I believe the fun these crossings added years ago, is why I started recollecting all the Tyco slot car & train pieces.

IDK any real race tracks that actually cross railroads unless the tracks go under the race track I head of a railroad that phisically crosses a airport runway somewhere

I think this is what Micro was referring to. It's on the Khyber Pass Railway, and is an arial view of where the train must come to a complete stop infront of the Peshawar International Airport. They must wait in front of the 9000 ft. runway until they get clearance from airport control. I found it here: http://my-khyber.blogspot.com/

Good question Ben & great info DJ... I think a railroad crossing on a race track would be a little corny. Thats why as we have talked before, I have chosen to make a city / highway layout that will have much more realism, using the common street looking slot car bodies rather than a McLaren, etc...

To my knowledge there are no race tracks anywhere that have rails crossing them. It's not safe on several levels. The main reason would actaully be the fact the tracks would be a disruption in the racing surface. Most courses strive for the smoothest track possible. Running over a set of tracks at high speeds (unless your traveling perfectly straight) would cause a slight loss in contact with the pavement. And with a stiff enough suspension you'd probably be looking at a unintended spin. That said I remember a old arcade racing game where at one point you did have to cross the tracks, and if you weren't in first you usually got to unsuccessfully T-bone what looked like a FP40 haha.
