I know the majority of you are HO, are there any that collect American Flyer? AF was my first electric train.

Some American Flyer stuff would be really something to see in person, but I've never seen any S scale trains. Oh well.

I'm not into S guage model rairoading or anything, but I went to a train show in St. Louis once that had a few layouts that were completely American Flyer. They were neat to see, and I never realized how scarce American Flyer is.

I THINK my aunt MAY own a car or so in AF S, but I don't remember what it is, but I have seriously considered getting some of my own before. Only, they're a little more expensive than most Tyco...

Flyer was my first exposure to model trains, before my Dad built an HO layout. He had a 322 Hudson and a lot of track, and I've expanded the collection quite a bit in recent years. I've always loved the smoke and chug.

Interesting coincidence Mike, since I just finished watching this auction:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=200342443347

I think the black 0-6-0's are rare, because all those I've seen have been blue. Does it have a smoke unit?

I own a 'Flyer, it's a #283 4-6-2 with a few cars I got for free from a budddy! It has the chug-chug unit and a smoke unit. Currently, I'm trying to find a reasonbly priced e-unit for it. This scale is rare and thats why very few have actually seen them! They sell for a lot too!

There is an Estate Sale that started yesterday (5/28) in Dallas that had a Gilbert American Flyer - looks like a 0-6-2 that is all silver. Also had two passenger, two box cars and one searchlight car.

http://www.24-7estatesales.com/option,com_zoom/Itemid,32/catid,1069.html

Do not be surprised if the above link does not work after 5/31 since the Estate Sale is over on 5/30. There are two pictures on the 4th and 5th row.

Not many trains show up in Dallas Estate sales and when they do - they tend to be bought within the first few hours.

I missed getting a box of HO and TT trains last week by 10 minutes.

Cheers

Tough luck on those trains, Bill. There's always next time though!

Anyway, here are the pictures in case that link does go "stale"...

And this Aurora instruction book, which is kinda neat, or HO scale at least:

Absolutely have to pick this up with both hands. From 1948-1952 all metal, ran like a Swiss watch when I got it. Sound and Smoke...without DCC.

Matt, the reason these engines survived 60+ years are that they are "kid" proof. Not to mention, unlike todays cars, you can actually maintain them...

Im an S Scale buff. Im 19(as of yesterday 6-16), and i have a good size S scale collection. they arnt that rare. well i dont think so that is. I just got a mint and i mean almost new set of manual switches on ebay the other day and i paid like 14 bucks or so. 2 years ago i paid 20 a piece for 2 switches, also manual, that were in need of cleaning. In my opinion the value is going down.
