I haven't posted here for a while. This was an mib Mehano SD40 with 8 wheel drive.

How well do these locos run? The "Presidents Choice" series here in Canada ran Mehano locomotives and I've stayed away from them as I don't know how well they operate. What kind of mechanism do they use?

I like Mehanos, Todd, they're basic, reliable machines that run well---at least that has been my experience.
This one runs great...

...a reminder of all my Canadian friends I made in Bible college. Who'd a thunk I'd need a serviette instead of a napkin, or eat Smarties instead of M&Ms, put mayo on my fries or ketchup on my Mac & Cheese?

Hey Todd. The Mehano engines that came in the PC sets were all (the 6 that I have anyway) excellent runners. The PC diesel engine that I have has dual flywheels, is very heavy, and I *think* has all wheel pick-up/drive. Here it is:

Good to know. Sometimes complete sets show up for sale quite cheap (and sometimes quite expensive!)

Hi All,
The Great One gave me this on Saturday. It's an Athearn F45. It's a great puller, very heavy. She went to a train show while I was working and brought home a few nice things for me including an SCL & CN C-Liner.
Alco Fan: Nice Grand National you got there.

Hey those 430's look familiar 'round here:

My guess is the Rocky mask was not ready when they first produced this paint scheme. The F7's I've seen all have it.
As to my entry, may as well give this one a proper intro:

The only 630 with all the nose ladders... which incidentally were removed even during the Ph1/Rivarossi days. And if you look closely at any Tyco box with the 630, they show the Santa Fe version with the yellow nose - but the only one to get it was this.

MYTYCO, That is a Mini Exact I think from years ago. I wonder it some one still makes them? I also have a Grand National Monogram kit about 50% complete too.

Hi Alco Fan,
Those are real nice. I have not seen a Grand National model, REAL or other wise in a long time. So keep a tight grip on her.

mytyco, If you look at the previews for the new Fast and Furious flick VinD drives a GN under a flipping and rolling tanker truck I think! Or at least it's a black Buick Regal cloned to look like a GN.

Hi Microbuss, The colorful items behind the GN's are amusement park rides. I have a few Faller rides on the layout. My favorite rides are the Log flume and the power tower rides. All of the rides work, some are temper mental. The yellow ride to the left of the loco's is a wild mouse ride.

Yeah, I got lucky on that. A boxed GN 430 still has the all-time record highest price for a Tyco diesel ever sold on ebay. But that was obviously a rare fluke as mine did not cost anywhere close to that.
The SF 630 does look good with the stripe. I wonder why they quit... they kept the yellow stripe on the 430 for several years after...

Ha! Would you believe I took that same Monogram HO GN and did the opposite: "cloned" it to look more like a normal Regal?
I already had the Black GN. When I found a silver one, it was easy to paint it green, like a former friend's car.
Hey: Great Northern Grand Nationals? Good News!

Hey AlcoFan , thats a sweet looking locomotive. Would you be intrested in parting with it? Maybe a trade of some sort? Im also looking for the AHM version of the Western Maryland SD-40 if you come across one in you travles.

Lots of nice entries this week. Here's my 'best condition' Mantua steamer-- a Great Northern Mikado with Vanderbilt tender, circa early '90's (still open frame motor). Apologies for the packaging, but I can't bring myself to remove the original shrink wrap!-- to collect or run?, collect or run....

Here's the "Regal" (with another WM loco for good measure!):

My friend's was a 1976 IIRC; she inherited it from her grandma in 1994. It was the greenest dang car you ever saw - the interior was a dark green vinyl, but the exterior was very close to the color I used to paint mine (with Sharpies, as usual). I'm still friends with the girl but the car died after a couple years. Shame as it was one of the few GM cars I ever liked.

No it wasn't from a PC set. I bought it new, but can't recall whether it was Life-Like or Model Power.
I'll see what I can dig out, unless someone else on here knows.

My latest Ebay find:

Proto 2K FA2. It was cheap and already has a decoder. One cool feature is the cooling fan on the roof actually turns. It's driven by a belt off the motor! Cool! Someday I'd like to add sound.
