I have changed the title of this thread because its old name was nolonger correct. It is now a Lindsay train thread.
Well this is going to be a short lived thread. I have 3 locomotives. a pair of powered Alco PA1s and another Alco FA2. Lindsay made die cast metal bodies and frames. Some one here posted there small diesel the " STUBBY ". I dont have one. My PA1s I chose to paint for the Pennsylvania Railroad. All I have seen ( models ) are done in Tuscan red with 5 stripes. I knew a few were painted in Brunswick Green with a single stripe. After checking with some hard core Pennsy modelers that really know a lot about the Pennsy, I was informed of the numbers I should place on them. I am not sure but only 4 A units and 2 B units were painted single striped BG. My numbers will be 5757 and 5758. I guess now I'll go and take some new photos of the locos, then post them. C U Latter. frank

FWIW Frank (that's for what it is worth) I had the same message keep popping up in one of threads I was watching, too.
I informed GIC about it, like he told you in the thread that was locked because the issue isn't that they aren't aware, it's that they can't do a darn thing about it.
There are three "mods" to this forum. Some more active than others, but all provide insightful information and provide assistance here as they can.
I personally help mod a forum based on the same free software and it IS buggy. It's not as simple as you'd think it should work.
As to the oversized pictures and what not..... IF you upload a picture to be hosted on this forum's server, there is a limit as to size. That's because bandwind costs money. Todd hosts this out of the graciousness of his pocketbook. The mod's do it from the heart as well with no compensation but with great sacrifice in their time (I know GIC spends a great deal of time replying and assisting others, and had to cut back, as it was interfering in home life and outside of tyco responsibilities.)
You can host pictures somewhere else. Then it's YOUR bandwidth that becomes issue. GIC hosts his pictures on his own site. NYC set up a code that all pictures would play nice in each of our monitors.
Now, back to your original problem..... that error you posted (that I was seeing too) if you really want to see the post you can hit the "reply to post" button and read from there. You don't have to actually reply, unless you really want too, but it's not really locked per se, the code isn't playing nicely.
Our forum host (NYC) has surely been made aware of the issue (romcat and GIC - can you attest to that for our good man frank?)
And there's no dead unread threads ---- bored sometime and just watch what the guests are looking it. It's kinda amazing.
Ok, that's like 5 posts this week for me. I better shut up before I spread too much estrogen around. ****back to the shadows enjoying the hobby****

toptrain,
I got your email PM. I think you probably have several issues going on.
Since your images are hosted directly on the forum itself, each user's account probably (assumption here) has a certain amount of space. You could be using up your allocation. You might want to try hosting the pictures you want to share at a site such as photobucket. Be aware, there are bandwidth issues at sites such as photobucket and if there's a lot of volume of use on your pictures, that can make your pictures unsharable. Bandwidth comes at a price regardless when it comes to the internet.
Secondly, I noticed you have an aol email account. Do you have aol internet, too? I know in the 90's browsing with an aol account was really goofy and didn't play as nice with other websites. I'm assuming it hasn't entirely changed over time, though could be wrong.
Anyways, just trying think of what could be causing the problems, since I can sense your frustrations.

They look great, Frank.
Was the trainphone detail part of the kit, or did you add it? The Lindsay chassis looks like it's upside down, with the motor beneath the frame. How does it run, and is the Lindsay motor 5 or 7 poles?

I only have an FB shell, powered by an MP/Roco shark-nose chassis. Posted this before. I wouldn't mind finding more Lindsay stuff. Evan

On leafing through an old MR recently, I found an ad for Hobbytown featuring FA and FB locos. There was a notation stating these were Lindsay bodies. In a later issue of MR, these were shown as discontinued, and on clearance. That must have been just after Lindsay packed it in, and their shells were no longer available to Hobbytown. I'm curious as to why HT didn't buy the molds. A bit of useless info. for you.

Hobbytown continued selling Cast FA type locomotives for many years, along with other Diesel locos. So I think they did get the Lindsay casting molds. frank

Funny this old topic should surface again as I am looking to build exactly the same thing soon. I've got an Athearn PA, powered, and PB, dummy, both painted Pennsy tuscan red. The PA has a busted pilot but I've recently acquired a Lindsay cast shell I'd like to detail and fit to the Athearn mechanism (which runs beautifully even though it was in a reject box at the show labeled "$5 - not working") and paint PRR tuscan. I have spare steps for the Lindsay shell, and everything else I need except trainphone antennae. So if I may ask, toptrain--you said you used athearn stanchions and steel wire; that was my plan already, but how exactly did you attach them, and where did you get the dimensions for bending the wire antenna? Also, any advice on mating the Lindsay shell to the Athearn frame? The shell hasn't arrived yet, so I can't check, but will it even fit, or is surgery required?

Well young man you've come for sure to the right person for one of your questions. I drilled and crazy glued them in. As to proper alignment, find a photo of one. Count the stanchions. Locate positions for the first , over the cab and last at rear of loco. Pencil mark locations for these 2. Measure the distance between them. Do your math. Drill your holes. Or get a brass kit from Walters, or a hobby shop, with proper brass stanchions . Along with the kit will came a paper overlay for correct drilling of mounting holes. also a casting for a transmitter. The only time I used these kits was to mount the system on a tender of a I1 I was detailing. I also did a few cabooses with the system. frank

A little know fact is that Lindsay first produced the small 2 axel diesel "Stubby" I think was its name. Dies went to Kentron and then they made it. I don't know which I have. Does anyone know how ,if there is a way, to tell them apart.

Now Sean, mustangs_n_trains has the a boxed Lindsay and some other parts. Maybe he knows how they can be told apart.

Currently plotting the PA1 project, once some progress is underway, will post pics.
Finally got hold of a nice (intact, all-original, never painted) Penn Line Whitcomb which will be here in a few days, so the little Stubby is next on my list of critters to find. This is not going to be an easy one--only ever seen one single example in real life. But I *will* catch up to you old-timers some day!

* This Saturday at Carlstad NJ is the New York Society of Model Engineers annual train show. It is across to street from the club. They use the church school's cafeteria / auditorium. We will be a 5 tables along the length of stage. In excellent position to get coffee and cake for the morning, and hot dogs and sodas for lunch. The lunch room and kitchen is behind the stage. * The purpose for this post is that a few days ago at Charlies house I loaded his van with additional trains and among them was another Lindsay SW7 . This one is complete. If things go right, and I sell some stuff, and it is still aviable, I'll be taking it home. frank
I'll post the train show flyer again here.
