This kit is an all time favorite of mine. I had one of these on my 70s layout This kit is deatailed quite well out of the box. I added some interior paint detail. I had forgotten about this kit until a buddy on ebay sent me this auction... it's a bit dusty, but a great kit over all that has also been around many years....

Here's mine...

The one on the right was missing a couple pieces, but otherwise looked exactly like the left one until I made it more, uh, "appropriate." Kind of fits the current times a bit. I even made a commercial property available sign... shoulda took a pic of that one.

The Freezee is a cool old favorite of mine. The building itself looks like an old 70 era A&W Rootbeer stand we had in town back then.. Almost exact building other than the colors, our A&W was orange & brown.

That's pretty cool Walt, would be a good idea to take another kit and recreate an A&W out of it then.
In reality this was a very common style for "mom & pop" hot dog stands throughout the country. The flying roof dates back to the late 50's and the jet age when that aesthetic was a very popular design motif.
For my modified one, I simply removed the glass-room addition and returned it to a more open-air walk-up-stand design. It shanged the look completely!
But you just have to love that scale 12' tall ice cream cone. I remember when all sorts of smallish businesses had gargantuan signs that you wondered how they ever paid for...

Microbus, There is an HO scale A&W kit availble for purchase. I'm not sure who makes it but it can be found online.
GIC, The old A&W stand was always fun as a youngster to cruise in to and grab a hot dog & root beer. The only A&W stand I am aware of now is one located in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. We stopped at the A&W on our last trip down there for the "Shades Of The Past" car show held every September...
Your building with the front glass area removed, instantly made me think of the old A&W stand we visited years ago...

Ben, Here is a website with the A&W rootbeer stand. Go to this page & scroll down... Maybe you can contact them to find out who the manufacture is for sure..

Ben, You mentioned liking the buildings that are already painted and detailed. The freezee is a good looking kit built out of the box.
Now someone could take this kit and detail it alot more if they chose to. I am kind of reliving my 70s layout & kits etc.. So I am limiting how much additional detail I add.
We all know that more detail makes them appear more real.. however on my Life Like kits, I add only minimal detail to keep the buildings near the same as they come in the box, or as I had on my 70's layout.
The Tyco Kits I have bought, I never had any of them in the 70s... So I can justify adding more detail to them as they really need badly. I have claimed many times, of Tyco's buildings kits as being drab out of the box.
---But in no way, am I trying to downgrade these kits---
I think they are really cool in any form.. and am very happy to have the ones I want...
I may have too many buildings already, but I want to buy a LifeLike Gas Station (ESSO) and maybe a Tyco Sand House....

At the time this thread was active it seemed like there was a lot of "photo shuffling" going on. Example is my freezee box pic then under it the small box car pic, instead of the Freezee building pic that I had posted there. This shuffling was happening to several of my threads and photos. I have noticed this has not happened in quite a while now.... Anyone know how or why this was happening?
