I have spent most of the day making a database for the HO train items we have and checking online for any and al information I can get on these items. By far the most informative place I found online is right here so that is why I signed up today.
I can't say that I am much of a train collector. With way too many Hot Wheels, CD's Albums, books 40's dinnerware etc., I have little room for another collection. However there were these 80+ boxed HO train pieces taking up space in the library/media/junk room so I thought it would be a great idea to get more knowledge on what I had. A fellow Hot Wheel collector mentioned that he collected trains too and said the magical words "If you ever decide to sell.." Well I don't have any intention to sell, nor buy any more. The database is just a tool to see what I have and possibly assess value.
Unless I missed something, the web is not a great place to find values of trains (discounting eBay of course) but I did see about 3,000 offers for value guides for sale. Until I decide to buy one of those guides I will be checking back here for information. In the mean time, I will try to fine tune my database and maybe carve out some space for a track so we can get these babes out of the box and on the track.

Hey Bruce,
Welcome to the TYCO Forum. We've got a great group of folks here that together present a solid base of information on HO-Scale model trains. In addition to TYCO, you'll find info on AHM, Mantua, Athearn, and many others.
Look forward to reading posts from you...
