What kind of info? General on number boards? Boards now normally display the unit's road number, but one time were often used to display the train's identification--it varied by company. No units ever would have had multiple #'s like yours have.

I'll look around for some info. I can't think of any examples in the US by the 1970's where boards were used for anything but road numbers. --maybe some commuter operations?

The engine's unit number usually appears in the boards now (and since the 70's). A few newer units only have front boards, with the rear blanked out, as the units tend not to travel back-first.

I mean the board number is the one belonging to the engine, like the #4301 on the Tyco/Mantua 430's?

Gareth, that's correct. When I was dispatching trains, we generally called the train by its loco number and direction of travel, like "BNSF 4301 West." Before the 70's or so, some number boards used the loco's number preceded by an 'X' to denote this train was an 'extra' (not on timetable. I think most just display to locos unit number nowadays.
