Thats great My name is Chris, I've been lurking around this site for awhile now and decided to jump in. Years ago we had a decent size layout that would go up around Christmas that has a mix of HO & O gauge running around. Fast forward to last year, a friend of mine reactivated his old layout which had laid dormant for 20 years. His locos & rolling stock were just as old. Thankfully he lets me have a siding or two on his layout, and my trains came outta storage once again. We've been just toying around for fun, nothing serious since the layout and many of our locos are pretty old. Though I've really gotten into messing with the looks of various rolling stock. Learned alot from reading on here, and I loved everyone's attitude (especially when it comes to rivet counters lol). So that's about it. I got lots of pictures of various things I've been toying with, so I'll be posting them around the site here & there as time permits. Quick run down of my current roster.
* Life-like Chessie F7 - Literally my first engine from 15 years ago? Still looks great and will break the sound barrier if you give it full throttle. Started messing with some of the details on it this year, nothing major just trying to set it apart a little. * Lima 0-4-0 - Its a real Lima not a later knock off. Got this shortly after the Chessie back in the day. I love how it looks and it runs like a watch. * Tyco super C630 - Was a hand me down. Actually hated this one since it ran like crap and came in the ICG paint which I wasn't a fan. When I started surfing on here I saw Tony Cook's C630's he did in NW. Decided it would be good learning project. Mine doesn't look anywhere near as good as his, but I like it alot. Just need to get traction tires for it (hence why it ran like crap years ago). * Tyco Durango GP20 - Another hand me down, I like it just as it is. Has the stock car & caboose. No plans to modify those I think they are fine as originals.
Recently, picked up 2 slightly older Athern (kato powered) Alco RS-3's in Pennsylvania black scheme. Got them off a rivet counter friend who still can't believe I play with the older engines. But the two RS-3's are numbered differently and will pull most anything with no fuss so I love them for it. And right now I'm waiting for a Mantra 2-6-6-2 Western Maryland to arrive at my doorstep next week Finally a few pieces of assorted old rolling stock that I'm building into whatever I wanna try.
Anyways thanks for reading. Can't leave without a picture. So here is my slightly detailed Chessie F7.

Welcome aboard Chris. I have one of those L/L Chessie F7s, but it doesn't look as nice as yours. Having fun is what it is all about.

Nice F-unit Chris.
I normally don't care much for the bright Chessie colours, but I really like yours.
Welcome aboard!
Cool picture by the way...

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I'm pretty lucky my F7 survived so well. It actually runs pretty smooth for what it is. It won't do low speed crawling real well, but it can pull a decent number of cars for not being can motor powered. Recently I've been having it team up with my Lima 0-4-0 as a pusher engine. The gearing on both locomotives is very close. But the Lima doesn't have the weight to pull alot of cars. I'll park the Chessie off the rear of the train and the two of them have no problems moving along.
The above shot was taken before I did any work on the Chessie. Main things I did was paint the side vents silver. Have number boards made for the front (which I printed on shipping labels haha). Added clear plastic for the portal windows (hard to see since I didn't frost the windows or anything). Painted the roof fans black just to set them apart. Dry brushed the trucks with some grey paint. And finally a matte spray over the whole thing. It was my first time tinkering with the details on something like this so it was sort of a test bed. Pretty happy with the outcome so far though
