I would guess what you have is an old Athearn or Globe car. Look at the directions in this link. Does it match the type of construction? http://www.hoseeker.net/Globe/globeaarbox40cardiagram.jpg

I have put a few similar cars together... Bowser had wooden floors... and that roof rib detail: YIKES! what a dread that was. The rest of the car was metal... tab A into slot A...
The roof assembly had three sub-assemblies before putting on the ribs and roof-walk...
Looks like you have a nice model. I wonder about the truck/axle assembly... do they look like originals? To me, looks like two different axle sets.
The chassis/frame work... you're in luck when all parts fit as they should. A partial metal deformity can make assembly challenging as well.
Been there, done that... The newer Bowser/Stewart kits are heavenly... please keep them available as kits! There's a line of RTR being sold... sigh...
John
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

| Looks like it has later Tyco trucks with the coupler ears clipped off, to me.

Seems I`m talking to specialists! Here is my restaurated VARNEY. Had to scratchbuild one lost hatch , fixing broken steps of ladders, ad lost brakewheel and brakestand. Im wondering how detailed this old car is . Roof and body are tinplate, floor plastic. You can see the two different trucks, the dismantelt one on the picture below is from the pair that came with the car. for the reason one axle is lost i mounted a spare til i get a matching one.
Question: how old is it?
many greetings to all who replyed - Erich

Varney RW-6, Schlitz, made 1954-1957. All of the Varney private owner series (wood side cars) were made in that period.
Varney trucks can be sourced from Athearn cars as well, during some periods Varney bought his trucks from Athearn.

Erich, I am pretty sure I have a wheelset to match, maybe even a pair. Do you have the springs for the truck? I have some hatches too, If I could see a photo of the one you need, I can see if I have one that will match. Ray

Hi Ray!
Many thanks for your help!
This is the pic of the hatches, brakestand and gearbox are also scrachbuild, brakewheel is KD.
This is my other Varney. Doors are missing. I`not sure if I should have the courage to ask you for it, but hope is last to go !
I had the luck to have one spare for Brake parts (metal in the middle), but one is missing as the hole shows.
many greetings - Erich

Erich, I found some wheelsets, the hatch and brake parts. I don't have the doors for the stock car, however, the doors from a Life Like stock care should fit since Life Like used the Varney molds.

HI All!
here is my newest kit. HOseeker says its from 1949. could this be? i think this was made in the sixties. kit has wooden and diecast parts. Many small details as doorhangers etc. the only plastic is the original package. - Erich
