Would like some more info on this one:

Supposedly a promo made for product dealers and NOT consumers, which makes it rare at any rate. But what I would like to know, from someone with knowledge or memory of the late 70's, is what the "Desenex Line" refers to. Is it simply an attempt at Corporate-freelance railroad lingo? OR did Desenex ever make something besides antifungal foot treatment?
(I never would have guessed foot powders had that kind of profit margin, but there you go.)
I'm looking to date this piece conclusively so any info is appreciated.

Hi Tony. I remember this item from Commericals back in the 1960s - 1970s. Desenex is anti itch foot powder for athletes foot. The car was probably made in the 1970s for some kind of promotional or advertising campaign. As with most promotional cars the Reporting marks usually have the date, in this case the DLX 1172 refers to 11/1972.
This link has some information on the product along with some pictures of the Logo on their product. Carl

Hi Carl,
Thanks for your help, I appreciate the info. Do you know if Desenex made anything else (in other words, did they only make the foot powder, or was there a whole "Line" of different Desenex products)?
As for the date. I thought 11/72 could have been it... but the style and decoration of this car do not correspond to then. In 1972 the boxcar still had open steps... by my research those did not change until 1975 or so. And this one can't be the first to go closed, because the paint job is superb: solid stamping, good paint coverage, and full glosscoat. Again, they didn't start doing that until the mid-late 70's (look at the gradual improvement of the Spirit of 76 cars... the late ones looked the best by far and this Desenex car is comparable to those). In 1972 thru 1975/76, the boxcar paintjobs were pretty much terrible. But this is far nicer than that.
Funny enough, I at first though this was for the dandruff shampoo. But that was Denorex.

I remember Desenex for their zinc oxide ointment my mom used to use when when we were kids. I'm not sure if it's still made. Probably causes cancer now (but only in California ).
