I'm sure more than a few have heard of this train, but I just found out about it and I think it's really, REALLY COOL.
Ever heard of the M-497, or "Black Beetle" as it was nicknamed?
Back in the 60's, New York Central was looking to increase passenger traffic now that the bustling freeways of America were taking over.
They decided to test how regular track would cope with trains travelling at high speeds, so they built this thing:

Yeah, just strap a couple jet engines off a B-36 onto an old Budd car, and see what happens.

I've always wanted to 'bash an Athearn unit into one of those...one o' those "round tuit" thingies. Did you know that the front windows are from the number boards of an F unit?
