I've seen one Shark, a Midnight Express in poor shape at a train show. I've got a dozen F shells in my parts bins.

The only real difference between the F-7 and the F-9 are the paint schemes offered, right?

If so, I've seen many, many more F-9's than F-7's...just sayin'.

I think I lot of what we each see is what we want to see. It's like if you buy a car, then you starting "seeing" more of your type of car, because you are aware of them. If you like Sharks, or F-7A's, then you'll probably see more of them, because you're more aware. Any engine you don't care for, you'll just not pay close attention to them at shows, Ebay, etc. Of course, locale plays a factor, too, where certain trains were marketed. But searching on Ebay for Tyco lots, it seems there's plenty of C-430's, some F-7's, and a pretty fair amount of sharks, too. I've seen a LOT more of the patriotic 1776 loco's up on Ebay recently, but is that because I'm searching on them? Not really, when I do a Tyco Lot search, often there's a RWB shell visible in the lot. Plenty of Midnight Specials of late, too. At least I've noticed that. And they come in cycles, you'll see 10 one month, none the next. But I still think the C-430 is the most numerous of them all, in any roadname.

It would be interesting if any sales data existed to answer these questions. Another question might be what is the most common loco/paint scheme combination? In the pre-Power-torque days, at least, I think the Santa Fe GP-20 was very common.

I'm kind of surprised at the results, and I wonder how different things are based on region. I tend to see at least as many GP20s as F7s. I wouldn't say I see a lot of sharks, but I never thought of them as that rare. I rarely see C 430s outside of ebay. I've seen about everything on ebay.
