In a post-move return to near-normalcy, I paid an overdue visit to the Haunt this weekend and made a most happy discovery:

A NIB early-issue Proto2K E8, in the GORGEOUS as-delivered Art-Deco Rock Island "Rocket" scheme!
I have wanted one of these for quite a while but anytime I ever looked, they were hard to find an/or the price was steep. Can't beat finding it in your own backyard for nothin'.
But wait, there's more!
This unit is historically significant. The keen-eyed may have recognized that road number, 652:

Yes, this is the same unit... one of Rock's poor derelict soldiers, pressed on for duty beyond its years, at least "dignified" with a volunteer-created Bicentennial scheme, which it wore until the literal End of the Line in 1980.

The Independence model is nicely-customized Tyco of unknown/unconfirmed progeny - possibly a factory prototype but with no way to certify or prove it.
I'd have settled for any number on the original scheme, but sometimes you have to love a happy coincidence...

GIC, I hope you can verify that it was a factory prototype. I think it has an interesting history that will lead you to some evidence.

In the spirit of the upcoming elections, I have my own two candidates to offer from the world of Tyco: Above, is the venerable 4-6-0, proudly patriotic, but a little long-in-the-tooth. Takes a while to get steaming, but is reliable and carries a lot of history. It can pull a load, just not very fast. Below is the newcomer. Sleek and modern, it's hard not to be attracted to it. Has the potential to pull a massive load, but as of yet (being just out of the box) is unproven. Fans of the prototype will note that Alcos could be unpredictable, but when on, they were good. A bit of a tough choice, isn't it? (no PM's, please, this is all in fun!)

My new Athearn PA-1.

It runs about as well as you would expect an older Athearn to, and looks just great. Hoping to get some matching streamlined passenger cars for it to pull this Christmas...you never know what Santa will bring.
Concerning the "Loco-Vote 2008", I would pick the good ol' 4-6-0. Tried and true, through and through.

Uh, hi!
Passenger cars... I am not totally sure, but I think Puppyfang had some EL passenger cars he was wanting to get rid of.
I will remove this post when the facts are obtained.

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Ken,
not really true, in Brazil there is one none-operational A-Unit on a static display (bad shape). As far as I know there were no B-Units in Brazil. But, FNM (former NdeM) in Mexico has a nice SP-daylight coloured A Unit operational.

Hello,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ALCO_PA
sry bout my mistake! Also note, no narrow gauge ones, only broad gauge in Brazil! Still, Im happy to see that there are survivers of these beauties!
