Model Power had six different Locomotives made for them by Roco. The E7a, E8-9a, FA2, FB2, RF16a, RF16b. My intrest is in the Pennsylvania Railroad versions. All but the E8-9a were made in Pennsy paint. The very different thing that ROCO had done to the Pennsy series was the use of the same stencle to decorate them. They all wound up with the same number.

As you can see on this E7a the number is #5772. Note the 5 stripes and the circular keystone built into them.

Now here you see the Alco FA2. This is also # 5772 with the same striping and keystone.

Here is the Baldwin RF16a. Good old number 5772 still in use. The striping is the same. Pennsy's Fa and Shark B units keep the same striping without the Keystone.

Here is the Alco FB2 same stripes. Same Pennsy.

Finaly the Baldwin RF16b

Did the Shark A unit come with the trainphone antennas,or were they a custom install?

The trainohone antennas are made from extra Athearn handrail posts and steel wire. Brass bends to easy. If you have any of the other Roco built locos please post them. I have some others but photos not ready yet. frank

I have a couple of the Roco made locos. Only one is in PRR paint though. Camera is down so here are some links to previously posted photos:
AHM C424 http://www.tycoforums.com/tyco/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=323&SearchTerms=AHM,C424
Walthers H12-44. I have this one in PRR paint as well: http://www.tycoforums.com/tyco/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2949&SearchTerms=Walthers,H12,44
Once I get the camera fixed, I will post photos of the FA/B-1/2 and RF16a and b. All were stripped and repainted though. Only the Sharks came in PRR as bought.

Here is a Walters Fairbanks Morris H-10-44 made by ROCO. It is still new in the box.
]
This is Fairbanks Morris H-10-44. It was desigined by H. Lowery, SOME SAY the best industrial designer of his day. Lowery redid this same diesel for the FORD motor company giving it a unique front end. Putting a automitive style grill on it. He did a lot of work for the pennsylvania RR. Smothing out the streamlined K4s, Q1, S1, and others.

Nice scoop on the Walther's CNJ 9703 and the Hobbyline CNJ 9702
Two different makes and two different but corresponding numbers. Don't see that often.
well, like I say about ROCO motors... they'll out-live their wheels.
John
But, seeings how this is a Pennsy majority, I have some I'd like to include.
The steamer, all I know is that it says Austria on the underside of pilot/cow-catcher...

But, as you can tell, this is not a North American front.

The cab roof has side vents/celestory make.

And, how about that engine number! 38 3832... Seems to me, the only things that say this is North American is the Pennsy on the tender and the trucks beneath it.
Hey people, Any ideas on the spec's? *********************************************

Athearn's Fairbanks Morse Train Master # 8703

Walther's Prototype 1000 Fairbanks Morse C-Liner # 9451

Precision Scale Model's PB # 5754

Last, but never the least, Model Power's FA B as is pictured previously...
But, what would the correct Road Number be?
Thank you for your time and attention.
John

Zebarail : You got a Liliput 4-6-0 that was made for Life Like who used it to replace it's Casey Jones 4-6-0. What do you think of that spring loaded tender. Your pictures are huge and because of their size, they expanded everything. It is hard to view post. Got to put in smaller picts. CORRECTION: IT WAS NOT JUST MADE FOR LIFE LIKE, BUT AHM AS WELL. frank

I'm quite impressed with your knowledge, Frank.
Yeah, I do like that spring loaded tender. BUT A CASEY JONES REPLACEMENT? Holy!!! That explains the "38 3832" for 382. Now I see the resemblance of that cab roof, too.
And all this time I have wanted a "Casey Jones" locomotive... only, it's disguised... Liliput/LifeLike...
A friend mentioned about the Liliput... but not about the transition/replacement.
Thanks, Frank!
Oh, I sorta purposely made the pic's big because I wanted to emphasize the foreign characteristics of this locomotive... the smoke box and number.

John : I got that 4-6-0 in two road names. Pennsy, and Rio-Grand. The Rio-Grand needs drivers. Liliput cast it's drivers and the metal crodes and falls apart. Like with Varney and new one diecast locos some castings are good and some are bad. Did you see the locomotive that Liliput made for life like to replace the type 38. It was a Pennsy G5 4-6-0. The drive is identical to the type 38 just it has a Pennsy G5 body and tender with no springey connection. frank

Hi all,
Great!!! This is exactly what I do on my new Website! Its all about trains, model trains, trips and travel, bits and pieces, trucking....
http://mmiwakoh.de/Eigene%20Webs/Railfun/RocoUSA.htm
http://mmiwakoh.de/Eigene%20Webs/Railfun/RocoUSGW.htm
Unfortunately (for you) its in German. This website is continously growing, and I still have lots of things to be added.
Actually, didnt know about the Liliput steamer. The number on the cab is from the german model, a cl. 38, former prussian P8.
There was another Austrian diesel, the tyco F9 1776 has "Made in Austria" stamped on the bottom, dont know if it from Roco or Liliput.

Wow, Thanks Frank! Yes, that sure looks like my locomotive. It's nice to see the locomotive in it's correct paint... uh, with more or less body modifications... (I slightly modified your pic). Thank you very much for clearing up my mystery locomotive. I can now breathe a brief sigh of relief.

Hello,
one question, whats the current price for a used LL type 38 steamer, if I can find one?
Old Model Power / Roco diesels are quite cheap these days.
Thanks,
Martin

Martin : The LL type 38 Liliput modified for Life Like adding a american style front pilot (cowcatcher). It also removed all bumpers front and rear. It came with X2F couplers. It isn't your Austrian, German type 38 anymore, But it's drive parts are interchangable. The type 38 and G5 have the same heart. * As to a price I picked a parts loco, PRR G5 at the last show. It body was useless. It.s frame missed it's pilot. No front 4 wheel boggi. I got a good motor and three good axels for $5. Now I can repair my Rio Grand type 38. I have seen LL type 38s for $80.in good shape. My PRR type 38 I got for $35. The Rio Grand with it's problums I got for $15. The three PRR G5s I have one was complete and very good for $25. The other were just locomotives no tenders for $25 for the pair. I since have gotten a tender for one and the other uses a Athearn 0-6-0 PRR tender for now. That is what they cost me. For the train market the Pennsy G5 was only made by Roundhouse and that one run by life like. The life like had the right tender. MDC made a G5 and Bowser now makes a G5. frank

Thanks a lot, Frank! Actually, I think I know a lot about model trains, especially the 60s and 70s stuff, but I never came across this americanized Cl. 38! In Europe those models are virtually nonexistant.
What Im really interrested in is the original (not the G5) american Cl. 38.
One little question to all of you. Is there anybody willing to find me such a loco? 60-70$ would be no problem (plus postage). I dont care about the roadname, but it should be in nice condition, possibly boxed, minor playwear ok. Anybody out there willing to help me? Or anybody willing to sell his engine?
Thanks a lot,
Martin

$40-$60?
I paid $20 CA for mine. It was from a model-train club member. Funny thing about when I owned it... It ran backwards... but, I carefully dismantled it, swapped the power lines to the motor, greased it up a bit, kept the tender spring loaded (yes, I truly love that, Frank!) and set it on the tracks... took a couple of rounds on our 12x36 layout.
Aside from the paint job, it runs beautifully... Casey Jones replacement... Casey = Kacee Ky, IC railroad... Pennsy outside, Austria inside... ah! A Heinz 57 type.
Has purred like a silent Roco since!
The dislexit Dog was shining on me, I think.

I thought I'd add a pic of this little beauty to the Roco loco parade. This was given to me about 10 years ago. It has a tender drive, but what a drive! Five-pole motor, a high gear ratio, and built like a tank. She can really crawl. Oodles of extra detail, and the ditch lanterns on the engine & tender are illuminated as well as the headlamps. It's a model of Swiss Railways 2978, which is still in excursion service.

| I happened to notice about a 1963 AHM ad which illustrated a very European 4-6-0 lettered Pennsylvania on the tender. Possibly another import variation on the Liliput loco shown above. Those old magazine ads sometimes are just as invaluable to research as the catalogs -
