Part of the UP's "Heritage Fleet", which was introduced in 2004 or 2005 IIRC.

They have commemorative locomotive schemes honoring each of the Class 1 railroads that UP bought/merged over the years:

- Missouri - Kansas - Texas (The Katy)
- Western Pacific
- Missouri Pacific
- Denver & Rio Grande Western
- Chicago & Nothwestern
- Southern Pacific

The road numbers are the years the respective roads were merged.

AFAIK, Overland Models planned brass releases as did MTH or another "premium" HO brand. Big $$$$. Supposedly, the cynic's view is that UP specifically commissioned these units in order to renew their trademark rights for models, etc on these roadnames. But at least they did a nice job.
