Yes I have found this loco to be a very good running engine. Also as noted it makes alot of smoke. Enough to make you stop running it. * Some how Model Power wound up with the Marx dies. You see they have released many of the freight cars ,and a few of the engines. The Marx 0-4-0 steamer has been out with a new drive without the small switching tender. The other 0-4-0 old time steamer as was the one made for the Green Giant set . * Also the little O-B-0 diesel. I purchased the O-B-O in Pennsy tuscan red paint when first released and found it to be a weak engine. Only one axel was powered. frank

I picked one of these up as a basket case earlier this year. Amazingly it was all there and I was able to get it to run.

I've long wondered if American Flyer made these Hudsons for Marx, or if Marx just copied the Flyer HO Hudson. The tender is stubbier, and the drivers look like Bakelite, but the smoke and chug unit is the same piston type.

You know when you have a genuine Marx Hudson, check out the EMD Blomberg diesel trucks on the tender. Also the HO passenger cars have the same Blombergs too. Absolutely hilarious.Gotta love Marx.

Does it actually puff out with each rev. or does the smoke just pour out? What size of curves can it handle? Run good enough to run in circles? I own alot of marx in 0-27, not HO though.

RJ the marx hudson has a piston actuated smoke unit. It pumps about twice a revolution of the drivers. And it makes alot of smoke. frank

Hi Justin. The Marx engine is similar to the American flyer engine. It has a piston and cylinder that pushs air pass the smoke element, so it puffs out the stack. Carl

Thanks for the picture, Carl. As I suspected, it was an AF knockoff. Even the mounting arm for the trailing truck looks the same.

It was made for AHM by Rivarossi. As to the motor you should check your parts list with what you have and what you need. The information sites like HO seeker, at the bottom of the forum section should help you. frank
